Yes, because investigating murders in Kansas, arresting the offender, and locking him up is the President’s job, not the job of local law enforcement agencies.

And, of course, anyone who actually knows anything about how our government works knows there is no federal law against murder except when committed in those limited areas where maritime and territorial jurisdiction applies. IE, the Territories of Puerto Rico, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, United States Virgin Islandsand American Samoa. Included are the 11 uninhabited territories administered by the Interior Department, Palmyra Atoll, Baker Island, Howland Island, Jarvis Island, Johnston Atoll, Kingman Reef, and Midway Islands. Claimed by the US, but disputed include Navassa Island, Wake Island, Serranilla Bankand Bajo Nuevo Bank.

All 50 of the states, including Kansas, have State Preemption. Duh!

 

I was thinking the same thing. Why on earth would we expect the President to comment on a local homicide? (Unless, of course, he wanted to exploit it for political gain).

 

It did make today's Wall Street Journal. In particular, the man who was wounded when he tried to intervene and the Applebee's manager who kept the suspect talking while the police were called to arrest him.
