I don't see how. The opposite has been stated repeatedly by more than one person.

The Book of Acts is our history book of the history of the early church during the Apostolic Age. It is only 28 chapters, and does not give us all the details of all the activities of all the apostles. So, no we don't have a Biblical record of that happening, but that is not to say that it didn't.

I;m sorry , that won't work, because you youself have told us that if it is not in the bible, we can't use it.

So if we use your answer, we could "assume", that somewhere, Paul said the gifts (including tongues} would continue until Jesus comes back, but just didn't write it down.

Now, are you sure you want to stand pat on that answer???

You have already been shown that "Mark 16-18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover." says if not when.

Peace,

I believe the acts of the apostles is to be continued in our lives. But then we have to get up and do some things for Jesus with more than a sprinkling of faith.

We are not apostles, but if we are not witnessing everyday to the lost and giving to missionaries who are in need, to me it is saying, that Christians are merely sitting and hiding behind 'stained glass windows.'

Be doers of the Word and not hearers only.

I think I consider myself an evangelical. I don't consider myself a Charasmatic or a Fundamentalist though I believe in the fundamental trusts of the Word of God.

We are all to be evangels in spreading the Word and the saving values of Jesus Christ.

The acts of the apostles are to be done by us and we only have a brief time on earth to get the job done. A large portion of our world is still Muslim and Buddist religion.

Every Christian can tell what Jesus has done for them.

No, Paul never said that at all. In fact he said that the sign gifts would cease when that which is perfect (completed) is come. The completed Word of God is come. Are you inferring that Christ at some time in his life was incomplete? No, it was the Word of God that was incomplete, and now is complete. And thus the temporary means of giving revelation (prophecy, tongues, revelatory knowledge) have ceased. Christ or Paul never suggested that they would continue until his coming. That is just your imaginary idea.

Absolutely!

You have been repeatedly shown that these verses, when taken in context, refer to the Apostolic age, and yet you fail to believe. Have you had your daily dose of Drano yet?

Now, now brother, let's not get nasty.

I am smart enough to know what the scripture meant then and what it means now!! Even though some of these people are talking about drinking poisen on purpose, folks please don't try that. You will die.

What's wrong DHK, did you talk yourself into a corner?

You have to admit, if you look at it, that drano remark is really nasty!!

The Word of God speaks about 'presumptous sinning' when we wilfully take advantage of His grace as Christians. We are not encouraged to tempt the Lord to discipline us or to test Him to see if we could pick up a serpent as part of a religious service.

Each of us is given an angel [Psalm 34:7] to protect us at all times and especially when we are performing His ministry such as on a foreign field when we might be in a life threatening situation.

Sometimes the Lord allows His servants to be imprisoned in order that other may receive a witness to Jesus' saving power through forgiveness of sins. His providence can be to be in prison, or to be injured and in a hospital or even physical death. [Revelation 2:10]. There are no end of places that the Lord can place His people for the glory and enlargment of His everlasting Kingdom.

If we leave your thought right here, this is the precise reason why so many Christians never get to the missionfield, never go into the Lord's service, never dedicate their lives to the Lord for any cause whatsoever.
The don't take advantage of the grace of God, the fact that Jesus died on the cross for them, paid the penalty for their sins with His own blood. They don't seem to care about the grace of God that brings salvation to all men. They're too apathetic, too filled with the world's goods to bother with sacrificing. Jesus sacrificed; but never should a civilized westernized Christian even dare to think of sacrificing for Christ. Oh, how horrible the thought!! To take advantage of such grace! The marvellous wonderful grace of the Lord Jesus Christ--grace that is able to save. No, rather let the world perish and go to Hell instead. Argue in your theolgical armchair, and do nothing instead. But never, never take advantage of the grace of God and do something for Christ.
It is sad that much of Christianity thinks this way; particularly western Christianity. They have the world's goods; they don't need to sacrifice to serve. In spite of what Paul says:

Romans 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

</font>
You must not put words in my mouth!! That is not what I believe.

I said that it means if you drink any deadly thing ACCIDENTLY,(which is what the scripture means) it will not harm you!!

For you to post what you did is very dangerous!! What if some new Christian was reading your post and decided that statement was right! It could cause someone harm!!

You're playing fast and loose with the gospel, and I for one think that you need to stop.

Can't we just talk about the scripture without throwing nasty barbs and digs??

Peace,

Luke 4-9 And he brought him to Jerusalem, and set him on a pinnacle of the temple, and said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down from hence:
10 For it is written, He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee:
11 And in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.
12 And Jesus answering said unto him, It is said, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.

Is there someone tempting us on this board??

In light of what some are saying about drinking posion. It is not bibical! Therefore..........

**WARNING**
Doing anything that may hurt your body is aginst what the bible says.

1Cor 3:16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?

1Cor 3:17 If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.

2Cor 6:16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

1Cor. 6:19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

Do not do anything that will harm your bodies.

But always hold all things that men say up in the light of God's to word to be sure your not being misled. Continue to pray and to build yourselfs up! [IMG]

Jude 1:20 But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,

I can't believe how mis-informed some are, about people who speak in tongues.
First they try to catagoize them into a denomination. That is to say they are either Pentecostal or Charsmatic (I don't concider myself neither).
Then they say these tongue talkin people think that you have to talk in tongues to be saved. (I don't believe this. I believe its a gift, I don't get jealous if some has something that I don't have, because the 10 commandment say not to covet and to love my neighbor.

Psa 68:19 Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation. Selah.

Psa 103:2 Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:

Have you ever checked out the benefits? Could the gifts be concidered benefits?

music4Him,

Presbyterians, Roman Catholics, people from independent churches and I have a Mennonite friend who have the 'gift of tongues.' Jesus tells us that we are one Body in Christ; your gift blesses me and my gift blesses you. There is no reason for jealousy.

Lake Witney, Texas--you post was exactly right. I am in full agreement with you.

As far as labels like Baptist, Pentecostal, Charasmatic, Roman Catholic, Lutheran, etc. --these labels will drop off on the way up or burn off on the way down.

You are quite correct that all of the above have embraced the tongues-speaking movement of today. And having done such they are rightly called Charismatic and fall under the umbrella of the Charismatic umbrella. There are some Charismatic Baptists (unfortunately), Charismatic Catholics, and even Charismatic Mormons. The Charismatic movements is very broad drawing people from all types of cults and religions having in commong this one great entity of speaking in tongues. It is major force in pushing along the agenda of the future one world church of the Antichrist. Indeed we are living in the end times.

There is a real sense in which all of God's people are His 'signs and wonders' in this world. In Matthew 5:14a Jesus says that we are His light in the world.

Not only the O.T. Jews but we Christians are His sign posts and enlightening astonishments to those who are still unsaved, as noted in Isaiah 8:18.

The Prophet Isaiah says,

'Behold, I and the children whom the Lord hath given me {Isaiah} are for SIGNS and for WONDERS.' This is why we have to live close to the Lord--a life of holiness and love and we must trim our wicks/lamps and become His beacons in this spiritually darkened world.

Perhaps it is not as important to minister 'signs and miracles' at will, though some may have this gift, as it is to be His signs and miracles of His salvific power in the lives of people around us.

While the Apostle Paul tells us to 'desire spiritual gifts' [I Corinthians 14:1b] the more important gifts are prophecy/preaching in the language of the people and best of all to love, as God loves, both the saved and lost souls [I Corinthians chapter 13].

DHK,

[Quote} As I read the Bible there is only one criterion as to whether a person is saved or remains in a lost condition of soul.

If a person believes that Jesus came in the flesh and lived among human beings and can say that He indeed was God, then that person has faith in Him and is saved.

There are people in various sects who may love Jesus while their doctrine may be very flawed.

God said through the Apostle John,

'Hereby know ye the Spirit of God; every spirit (person) who confesses that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh, is of God.'

I am sure you are not unfamiliar with the two men in II Timothy 2:17-21 who were saved but believed that the resurrection of the dead had already taken place in human history. Their theology was flawed and yet God said His foundation was solid and that the Lord knows His people.
.

I John 4:2 says,

'Hereby know ye the Spirit of God; every spirit {person} who confesses that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh IS OF GOD.'

This is what determines salvation or the lack thereof.

Ray thats right I don't see the gifts in only one denomination I see them in all types of denominations.

I prefer being called Spirit filled instead of Charismatic. Also talking about umbrellas...... I'd rather be under the wing of the Almighty then under a charismatic umbrella. [IMG] And really if you think about it..... anyone who is saved by the blood of Jesus would be "Spirit filled". [IMG]

Please tell me where you find "gibberish" as a gift of the Spirit.
