I have been using on my Droid, the Olive Tree bible program. I am finding that it is slow and often freezes up. I recently downloaded Blue Letter bible program, and it appears to run a bit faster.

Before I start learning the ins and outs of it, I thought I’d ask what folks here are using. I really only use it to read the bible. I find it rather cumbersome for study purposes, or for taking notes. The most I do with my bible programs on the phone, is look up a footnoted reference to another verse. Ideally, because I am on a data plan, I’d prefer a program that simply installed the bible onto my phone, and didn’t always simply grab it online whenever I was looking a verse up. Finally, I’d like to avoid ads if I can.

To sum up: I’m looking for a program that doesn’t freeze up, is quick, no ads, and installs the bible directly onto the phone.

Are there any bible programs that you folks have used, that fit my criteria?

    YouVersion Bible. I love it.

Bible - Android Apps on Google Play

There are many downloadable versions of the Bible available.

The Faithlife study notes were built around the LEB translation. Other versions are available, though.

I admit, though, that I enjoy the LEB in this app as the use of italics and brackets instantly alert me to idiomatic issues or changes required from English grammar. A quick tap on these phrases brings up a dialog box explaining the original language and what went into the translation.

Tried the two mentioned above, but both had things I didn't like, including a front page screen before I got to the bible text. Interestingly enough, I found one that had the ESV--it was simply the ESV as an app, developed by the publishers of it. It is quick, no frills--just the text, which is what I wanted.

ESV Bible – Android Apps on Google Play

Thanks for the recommendations above. I guess I wasn't looking for a study program that lets you take notes, etc.--just a quick bible to read on the phone. Its not as elegant looking, and the options are quite limited, but it does the job.

Tecarta Bible fits your criteria. It does have a home page with an ad on it, but I never see it because when I open the app it opens to the part of the Bible where I left off previously. From there I can look up other verses, and I never have to look at the home page. (I think it used to open up on the home page, but lately it has not.)
