In my prayers the Baptist church I was brought up in not only discipled me to end my prayers in Jesus name but in Jesus precious name. I have honored those methods to this good day. I have written ministers complaining of their public prayer praying the Father in “thy holy name.” We pray the Father in Jesus name and in faith believing if we want to expect a blessing in return. With this comment I must add... It is hard enough to get an answer to prayers these days... Why do you want to complicate matters even more by icing out the name of Jesus?

I too was brought up Baptist and tend end my prayers the same way - "in Jesus name." I guess the adjective "precious" never made it down to Georgia.

In retrospect, that's not necessarily a bad thing, is it? It is a reminder that I have access to the God the Father only through my relationship with Jesus Christ. That He indeed is the way, the truth and the life.

Our prayers are not magic, where we must use the right words or somehow the incantation won't work. Just like true salvation is lot more than using the right words. Simply repeating the sinner's prayer without true repentance does nothing.

More than anything, our prayers are an issue of the heart. Most things are.
