Health officials urge Americans to get flu shots before November

    "Australia's flu season — which can provide an indication, but does not necessarily foretell the severity of the U.S. season — started early and is considered to be one of the worst influenza seasons the country has seen.

    • The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention labels Oct. 1 as the start of flu season for statistical purposes, but scattered reports show some places in the U.S. have started reporting cases already, including Santa Clara County in California where 2 people died recently.
    • The CDC has not yet released the figures of estimated deaths in the U.S. for the 2018–2019 flu season. But that season isn't believed to have been as deadly as the season before that, which killed at least 80,000 people.

    Does anyone care to tell us whether you get a flu shot every year or nor? As for me, I don't, and it is not like I am adamantly opposed to it.
    When I was in the Coast Guard, we were required to get it yearly. I have been retired for over 22 years and may have had the flu 4 or maybe 5 times. The last time that I caught it was a week or two after getting a flu shot.

    I avoid them like the plague. I believe they do more harm than good.

    I got one last year and plan to do so this year as well. As an old person I’d rather be safe than sorry. I’ve never had the flu.

    strong immune system there, Ken

    My mother had a flu shot in the seventies and came down with a case of the flu so bad she had to be hospitalized and swore off the shot for the rest of her life. I had the flu two years ago, caught it on an airplane and thought I was going to die. I recovered eventually but it took over a month.

    Have had one yearly for years, haven't had flu in longer than that. Wife has gotten them yearly as well though she has picked up slight cases of flu - her system is a bit impaired so not surprising.

    This year there are two types - so I have read - you might ask your doctor which is best for you. One covers three flu strains and the other four. They are recommending old timers get the three one due to the dosage is a bit stronger than the other.
