Pastor Jimmy Scroggins is Lifeway's trustee chairman.

Kathy Litton, elected this year the first female SBC officer in a generation, was nominated by Pastor Scroggins!

Got to love the last paragraph:

The president has been largely out of the spotlight since delivering a speech to conservative students in nearby West Palm Beach on Saturday, spending his days golfing on his private course and greeting the well-heeled members of his clubs.

(© Copyright 2019 CBS Broadcasting Inc. All Rights Reserved. The Associated Press contributed to this report.)

Amazed CBS mentioned the existence of "conservative students".
Not amazed at the parting shot: "spending his days golfing on his private course and greeting the well-heeled members of his clubs."

Other than that and what seemed to me to be a condescending description of the service,
"Brief sermons and readings by clergy at the Southern Baptist Convention-affiliated church were interlaced between traditional Christmas songs, as theatrical smoke billowed and fake snow descended from the rafters.",
I thought it was a good article. Thanks for sharing!

I think it is interesting to note the Trumps didn't go to a Catholic church. This as I assume Mrs. Trump being Slovenian us RCC.

Why did Trump ditch Palm Beach church for Christmas Eve evangelical service?

"On Christmas Eve...the president and first lady ditched services at the liberal church in Palm Beach where they were married and headed to a conservative Baptist-affiliated church in West Palm Beach."

"The Trumps have long attended Christmas and Easter services at [the Episcopal Church, Bethesda-by-the-Sea]. In January 2005, the couple married there and a year later, their son, Barron, was baptized at the church."

"Bethesda-by-the-Sea, a towering Gothic revival style church surrounded by a courtyard and lavish gardens, has long championed liberal and social justice causes. The church was among the first to conduct gay marriages and has condemned the administration’s decision to reduce the number of refugees and allow states and local governments to reject refugees."

"About a mile away on the other side of the Intracoastal Waterway, Family Church Downtown...is affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention and was formerly known as First Baptist Church. The church opposes abortion and considers homosexuality 'sinful and offensive to God'."

Trump makes surprise appearance at Southern Baptist church

"Leslee Bennett, the church’s communications director, said church officials were notified only a short time before the 6 p.m service that the president and first lady would be in attendance."

Well, that might explain the pastor's wife's sweat pants outfit. I feel so bad for her:

    Maybe next year.

As an aside, I drove by the airport today down by West Palm Beach and saw Air Force One. I guess the President is still enjoying his Florida Christmas extravaganza.

Evidently, Melania does consider herself Catholic, though it was unclear when she was baptized, as she grew up in a communist state that was officially atheistic. Daily Mail was the one to break the story back in 2017 during a Vatican visit.

Melania will be first White House Catholic since Kennedy | Daily Mail Online

Melania Trump was baptized Catholic, confirms Slovenian Cardinal Franc Rodé

Melania Trump is the first Catholic first lady since Jackie Kennedy - CNNPolitics

That [Melania] Trump even had rosary beads was news -- practicing Catholics often use the beads for prayers, moving fingers along each bead to keep track of how many times each is said, and repeated. Although [Mrs.] Trump was raised in Slovenia, a country whose religious population is predominantly Catholic, she married Donald Trump, a Presbyterian, in 2005 at Bethesda-by-the-Sea Episcopal church in Palm Beach, Florida, and has celebrated Easter services there as recently as this year. Her 11-year-old son, Barron, who was baptized at the same church, will attend St. Andrew's Episcopal School in Potomac, Maryland, in the fall.

However, the first lady's spokeswoman, Stephanie Grisham, today confirmed to CNN that [Mrs.] Trump is indeed Catholic.
