Anyone here familiar with the Church of the Nazarene?

And if so, what can you tell us about this denomination?

I met my first recently, a chaplain in the 82nd. A nice fellow, I enjoyed his sermons.

Weslyan-Arminian in soteriology, Methodist in church governance and Holiness in belief in entire sanctification. The Nazarenes came out of Methodism, convinced that the Methodists were too lax, and embracing Wesley's doctrine of Christian perfection.

That pretty much sums it up. I spent one year with the CotN as an interim following 13 years in the UMC. It was a very LOOOOONG year. The emphasis on Entire Sanctification is over the top in some circles, used and abused by many and not understood very well by most within the ranks.

My short-term assignment was to take care of a charismaniac masquerading as an old-school Holiness person who was tearing the church apart. She was like an octopus on rollerskates sticking her nose, mouth and unsolicited opinions into every recess of church life. The superintendent thought it would take me a year. Five months later she was attending a charismaniac church church in the next town.

free will Arminian, basically offshoot of the Wesley Holiness movement, big into being sauctified, and into seeking that ole "sinless perfection" state

Trusting my memory on past research:
    1. Infant baptism is allowed-based on covenant?
    2. Baptism can be via sprinkling, pouring, or immersion.
    3. It seems pastoral positions were open to women. This also could have been an offshoot as this particular gathering was a church plant that did not seem to have any sending entity. They said they were Nazerene though.

He practiced the vow against having hair cut very literally!
