"And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies. Is not this written in the book of Jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a whole day."

So if Israel had an extended day - would that mean that Hawaii was nighttime for 2 days?

Considering day light is about 12 hours of the 24 depending on the time of year. So two whole periods of day light would in itself be more or less or at 24 houes of light being a whole day for the Sun have stood still in that long day. Adding a regular night some 36 hours, not 48. Even so, 48 hours is ok by me.

Yet 36 hours is not what was recorded. The record simply states “about a whole day”.
The epic poem of the battle was recorded in the book of Jasher, ‘the sun and moon stood still at Joshua’s command’.
It would have been guess-work for them to estimate the time element in an age when time was measured solely by the sun and moon.

The sun and moon stood steady and the battle was won that day.

Applying minutes and hours to this episode is totally conjecture and inappropriate.

How it happened is miraculous and defies any scientific explanation.

Now Physically - we know that the Sun does not move - so did the Lord - stop or slow the rotation of the Earth?

    Absolutely!

And there is no science by which that event can be disproved or proved. Now any silence of history might be of an issue, but does not disprove the event.

At Pillsbury College where I taught we did all sorts of "models" for geography class. This was a question we gave on a test for students to apply latitude problems :)

Q: Where DOES the sun stand still - up in sky, daylight, not saying it was in exact same position in sky but sun is up - for 24 hours or a full day in summer?
A: At/close to the north pole (above 66.5 north latitude)

Q: Where DOES sun not shine at all - 24 hours of darkness in our summer
A: At/close to Antarctica (above 66.5 south latitude)

So in this special divine intervention day, the axis of earth is shifted by God 35 degrees and voila, sun for 24 hours on Palestine . Moon is visible during daylight, still reflecting sun, but obviously not so bright in contrast as in nighttime.

Sunlight 24 hours in Valley of Ajalon, darkness 24 hours in South Pacific 2000 miles east of New Zealand (opposite side of globe)

God breathes the axis shift for a few hours, then back. No big thing for God.

If earth quit rotating, there would be catastrophes in planetary structure, but if continued spinning on a tilted axis, nobody would even notice change in gravity, etc. Just miraculously long daylight, then back to normal.

Even science tells us the axis of the earth has shifted dramatically over the "millions" of years and "wobbles" continuously.

It’s still trying to science your way out of a difficulty.
A quickly changing axis wouldn’t be as destructive as stopping the earth, but let’s just say it wouldn’t leave anyone standing... maybe forever.

Perhaps God gave the Israelites super-powers like The Flash.

    Everything slowed down except them.

Actually no. Like the earth is moving 1,000 miles an hour (spinning east). It is moving 67,000 miles an hour thru the universe. Do you feel that?

Shifting axis is exactly the same except moving north to take Palestine toward the pole. We worked out the science. No one would feel a thing and just have their mouth open that it stays daylight. There is no "law of the universe" that demands the earth be 23.5 degree axis tilt and we can demonstrate it has not always been such in the past (true science).
