Here in NY - there is a 5 cent deposit of soda, beer, water and ect.
    I go for a walk most mornings - and when I do - I take a bag with me and collec bottles;
then I turn them in for the deposit. - I use the $$ to make extra payments on my car note.
Next year, I will be paying off my car loan 6 months interest. - what really made the difference
was saving compounded interest on my payments.

But that is not the subject of this thread.

I find bottles of soda and water -often with 50% full -or even more.
Around here, a 16 oz bottle of soda is about 2.50.

Why would someone buy a bottle of Coke - only take a sip or two
and then throw it out the window.

I could see if there was just -say 10% left - but half full? or more?

So why buy it - just to throw it away.

    I dont get it!

Another question would be is why to some people litter, rather than place in a waste container.

One reason for sometimes not finishing the amount purchased is distraction. If I am sitting watching the TV, and then get up and answer the door, I sometime go off and leave my drink, due to attending to the matter presented at the door such as my neighbor's concern.

But to your point, the cultural norm of waste not, want not has been lost. Some even think babies as disposable.

Personally I think the same "attitude" showed itself in the elections. For so many people deciding that the country was going in the wrong direction, I was amazed that the Rs did not sweep with the predicted "red tsunami".
Guess either only Rs were polled, or the polled folks lied!
Then again, maybe scads of folks decided the free money AND abortion were more important than all these other problems - in spite of the polls.
I'm afraid we have a society of many who no longer use common sense.

You would have to have common sense in the first place to use it. Personally I believe most are stupid and you can’t reason with a stupid person!

Salty, the mistake is paying the interest. Make a normal payment, then shortly after, usually a day or two, make another payment saying specifically "apply to capital" (I forget if that's the name). BTDT and it's amazing how much a little bit will affect the balance.

    The word is principal -

    On my statement,
    The choices are
    1) additional principal
    2) Interest
    3) Escrow
    4) Fees

    I always indicate additional principal

I had a 5 year loan - so those first couple of years - help save a lot of interest
so, if the first year - I paid an extra $100 a year - it adds up and I am saving the interest on that $100 every month for the course of the loan - and I just kept paying extra virtually every month.

If I went back a day or two later - I would be wasting gas.!
