I just recently signed on to this board and my heart is very heavy. After visiting several topics it is sad to see the spiritual state of some of those calling themselves Baptist.

Some have no idea wht their Baptist heritage is, they are not being taught Bible standards and truths, but are being taught man's ideas.

It is no wonder this country is so low morally..When so called fundamental Baptists call someone a legalist because they hold to Bible standards why would the world have any standards?

We are assailed because we claim the KJV as God's word preserved for the English speaking people, even when their is proof the other revisions deny much of what is in God's word to make it more acceptable?

The truth has never been accepted by a Godless world but we must still proclaim it!

Paul didn't dance with Felix. He preached the truth to him. John the Baptist didn't join Herod at the party he sent his head because he spoke out against Herod's sin.........DIVORCE and REMARRIAGE!

Oh praise God for the faithful few here who are hodling up the truth. Perhaps through this board some of th eignorant will see the truth. And many are ignorant because they have had no one to show them the truth, so let us continue to stand for the truth of God's word, point out sin and call it SIN!

Well, let's see Ernie . . . you waltz in here as a newbee and attack two (at least) long-standing respected members. You draw your line in the sand that KJV is the only authorized version by God (guess you have a red hotline phone to Him? ). You ignore legitimate questions too numerous to repeat here, and you have yet to give a single scriptural defense of your position. You likely have the original poster who asked "how do I find a Baptist church" thinking "how can I hide from Baptists," all to the glory of God, huh? :( :( :(

Just because one disagrees with a so called respected person on this board does not mean that they are wrong.

Only the Lord knows our hearts and with Him there is no respect of persons. Just something to think about.

There are many Baptist that really do believe that the KJV is the only entire authoritative Word of God. Many do believe that the other versions are good and that they contain the Word of God but they are not the entire Word of God.

I just say we need to pray for one another that our hearts would be open to what the Lord would have for us and concentrate more on what we are doing and do what is right for our own lives in accordance with the will of God and just pray for others. We can only change ourselves but by prayer and reaching out to others the Lord can change them.

I love you all as my fellow-heirs in the Lord and I am praying for you.

    Ernie,

Since you are new here let me share a bit of advice. The discussion on which version of the Bible to use is a very passionate topic to many that are here. In the other thread two people have asked you to take the conversation to the Versions thread. That means that there is a forum on here specifically for that purpose. The link is http://www.baptistboard.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=forum&f=4
Please post all the arguments for the KJV only in that forum.

    Ernie,

Problem is, not all so called bible standards posted are actually biblical but more of the personal conviction trying to be made out to be gospel truth when really its not.

I do not and will not agree with the version debate, in my conviction it is whatever version God leads you to read you read it and grow in Jesus, after all that is the point of the bible.

Keep in mind that its not just Baptists that are correct, others are too.

The basic command Jesus placed on us as children of God was to love one another and we need to do just that and not make others feel they are not spiritual giants if they disagree with us.

Whether it is sin depends on circumstances-- Matthew 19:9, I Corinthians 7:15.

And what is it that YOU are "hodling?"

Well I see we're all of one mind and one accord this morning. You know sometimes I tend to blame discord on the devil, but not always. Most of the time its just the flesh
doing what comes naturally, being diagreeable.Co 1:11
For it hath been declared unto me of you, my
brethren, by them which are of the house of Chloe,
that there are contentions among you.
    1Co 1:12
Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am of
Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of
    Christ.
    1Co 1:13
Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were
ye baptized in the name of Paul?

    Cyndib,

Notice I said "attack," not "disagree." Just maybe it's people misunderstanding and misstating people's words that causes so much disagreement?

"When so called fundementalist Baptists call someone a legalist because they hold to Bible standards..."

I assume you mean me since you used those same words in another post referring to me.

I've already told you that that's not what I said. For you to do this once is simply misunderstanding my post. To do it twice after having had it explained to you is just deceitful. Would Jesus do that?

Please don't put words in my mouth. I wouldn't do that to you and I it doesn't represent Christ well.

War_Eagle, Brother Ernie did not refer to you or to your post. And he is correct that good and godly men have been called names, not the least of which is "legalist" for believing the bible teaches certain standards of conduct. I will have to side with Ernie on this one. [IMG]

On behalf of non baptists on this board I have also seen some baptist who were pretty rude with non baptists. These are not necessarily God's standards, but some are also man's standards yet some non baptists are recieving pretty heavy ridicule for thier beliefs too. If we're going to shape up the ship lets clean every vent. ;)

    TC,

Ernie did refer to me in the "Becoming Baptist" thread using those same words.

If he didn't mean me in this case, I would rather hear so from him.

    Mt 5:11
Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and
persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil
against you falsely, for my sake.

    Mt 5:12
Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is
your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they
the prophets which were before you.
    If that BE the case

Usually, when we decide we are one of the few people left holding up God's infallible truth while so many others are just turning away and criticizing us for being right, we generally mean that if you agree with me, you are holding up God's infallible truth and if you disagree with me, you're just a pseudo-christian playing into Satan's scheme.

I was raised in an IFB church where I was taught from an early age to discern between our church (right truth, correct doctrine, proper worship, true salvation) and virtually all of the other churches in town (apostate, devil-worshiping, distorters of the truth, evil deceivers). This was the theme of Sunday School, and it was driven home by the preacher every Sunday. He couldn't preach a sermon without indicting some group or church that didn't believe "right" about whatever topic he was preaching.

Naturally, I learned to imitate that. I attacked people at school when I was witnessing to them. I targetet Methodists, Episcopalians, Catholics, and especially Southern Baptists because I had been trained to "witness" and this is what I thought I was doing. I did this on into college, deliberately choosing a school where I knew the campus would be filled with apostate Christians just waiting to finally hear the truth from someone who knew it.

Of course, I got extremely frustrated because people just didn't seem to want to hear the truth. I took little comfort in the ridicule I received, though I kept telling myself that the ridicule was just proving how right I was and how wrong they all were. It became a terrible burden to bear and I got very depressed because I kept thinking I had let God down. It was just too much to bear. I wasn't sleeping and I was angry and frustrated all the time.

When I finally cried out to God to tell me why things weren't working (expecting him to reveal some big sin in my life as an obstacle), I got the answer. I didn't know Christ. I wasn't a reflection of Him because I didn't know who he really was. I was only telling people who I thought he was.

I then went to a group of students on campus whom I had already insulted and alienated because they hadn't listened to me and I had called them blinded and apostate--the Baptist Student Union group (Southern Baptist related). I asked their forgiveness and their help. I got it, unconditionally. And through their patient teaching, and ministering, and nurturing, and that of a nearby church that also warmly welcomed me, I learned what it really means to be free in Christ. I never want to go back to that slavery again.

I've since learned that the Bible must be interpreted in light of itself and not of our presuppositions. Studying it takes time, prayer, and help from others who disciple you and teach you along the way. It was always hard for me to read the Bible before, because I was always looking for prooftexts and places to prove others wrong. Now I love it and can't get enough of it because I want to take everything I learn and find somewhere to use it in my life.

I've discovered that there are Christians who worship as Methodists, Episcopalians, Assembly of God, Church of Christ, Catholic, Presbyterian and a whole host of others. I'm just as certain that there are people in those groups who, with the same detailed nitpicking, could find a way to make the Bible prove Baptists as wrong as we think they are. What's the point?

The Bible tells us that we are to have the mind of Christ, and that is not limited to Baptists only. Nor do we have a corner on his truth.

Great testimony! Should make a few around here uncomfortable. I know I can learn from it. Thanks!
