    Was Paul Gay??

Since this came up on another thread, here is an excerpt of the theory about Paul being gay...or at least having gay attractions. I first heard the theory in college in the 70s. The first reference I can find for it is in the 60s. (But it may have well been out before then, as far as I know)

As was requested on the other thread, it would be nice to have "ammo" so-to-speak to debunk this theory once and for all. Just refusing to discuss the theory or stating that we "know" it can't be true is inadequate when talking with others who may use the scriptures pointed out in the article to make their case. Especially when those discussing don't believe in the inerrancy of scripture.

Thanks for any useful ammo that can be supplied.

This is going to be a hot thread.

I believe Paul just chose not to marry. He condemned homosexuality in scripture.

Some say the thorn in his side was homosexuality however, I believe it was his eyesight, possibly something else. My college professor on Life and Letters of Paul said he thought that it was homosexuality, then again most of my professors were flaming liberals. I'm still getting over attending a liberal college.

I seriously doubt he had a homosexual thought. Just my opinion. I think I may duck now. [IMG]

I'm sorry, RockRambler----but the link does not carry any more information than what was in the original forum we have here at BB.

I'd rather be in the room with a Chimpanzee who has a loaded automatic pistol than to be in the room with Spong behind the pulpit or lectern!!

I will let the thread run on---but I'm afraid you'll just be "spinnin' your wheels in the sand" if you want to prove the theory.

I'd disagree with no info in the link...he cites scriptures which weren't sighted in the other thread.

Martin asked in the previous thread, and I'm sincerely asking now for some ammo to disprove the theory.

How does wanting "ammo" to refute the theory translate in trying to prove the theory?????

We don't have to "refute" a theory, RR!! The way NASA "refutes" a theory on testing a rocket motor is when the rocket motor comes toppling to the ground after they fire the rocket motors---which is what the silly "gay" theory did on the other thread!!! It splattered on the ground like a wrecked airliner!!!!

blackbird...you were never on a debate team were you? Saying, "I don't have to refute your argument" will only make the other person think that you have no ammunition and that their side of the argument has been won.

I do not believe that Paul was gay. If he was, how could he have been an Apostle and how could he have written several Books in the New Testament, one of which is 1 Corinthians 6:9 where it says that homosexuals will not inherit the KIngdom of God. How COuld he have written those words if he was Gay? Just my thoughts.

There are no facts in the article to refute - it is all conjecture with a bias. One cannot refute conjecture.

So when Paul stated he wished all men were like him, he was saying he wished all men were non practicing homosexuals? I bet not.

This thread should be shut down, and a more constructive one started. Any thread that is started on the premise of a lie is unethical and wrong.
The author's very first paragraph is:
    Lies.

    What did Paul say?

1 Corinthians 9:24-27 Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain.
25 And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.
26 I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air:
27 But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.

Both his body and his emotions he kept in check. If he didn't he would be a castaway, not fit for the Lord's work. His emotions would have ruined just as much as an undisciplined body.

Romans 7:25 I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.

The mind is the seat of the emotions.
The flesh is the body referred to in 1Cor.9:24-27. He kept both in subjection. So that he could say at the end of his life:

2 Timothy 4:6-8 For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand.
7 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:
8 Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.

Was this a man that could not keep his emotions in check? I would rather believe the Bible than a liberal man's opinion.

When you start with a lie you end with a lie. When you start with a false premise you end with a false premise. I do not beiieve this thread edifying to believers. It is only slander against the Apostle Paul, of which there are no facts in place.
