The news going around is that Obama is spending 2 billion dollars for his overseas trip.

Supposedly the source is New Deli TV. Do you think the amount is correct - other thoughts.

Here's what I've read. Of course, who know if it's reliable or not. I try not to read Nationial Enquirer type site or blogs.

I got part of this from CBS.

  • 10 day trip @ $200,000,000 per day (personally, I think that's inflated)
  • 3,000 people going with him
  • 40 aircraft
  • booked entire Taj Mahal and local Hyatt
  • going to India, Japan, South Korea
  • 34 warships in tow
  • Ghandi Museum cutting down all coconut trees as not to allow for coconut falling on Obama's head
  • New Delhi building 80 foot towers to keep monkeys at bay
  • fleet of vehicles
Again, don't repeat me without checking the details yourself.

Even if only half of this is true, couldn't he just Skype whomever he need to see? :tongue3:

And, before anyone says that Bush or Clinton or Nixon or even George Washington spend money like this, doesn't the buck have to stop somewhere?

Doesn't the cycle of excessiveness within our own government have to stop with someone?

Didn't we just borrow $1,000,000,000,000 because we are in a financial crisis?

I think the citation of the 200 Million per day is probably not accurate. But taking 3,000 people around the world for 10 days isn't cheap. And who are these 3,000 people?

Oh, well. Maybe someone can come up with some more accurate facts than myself.

But CBS is the one who is telling the story about the coconuts and the monkeys.

And it cost $350 for me to get a Pepsi at the local store. I was in the store for about a minute. Someone has to pay the clerk, the power company for the lights, taxes, depreciation, etc. I drove my car so collect the payment, insurance, gas, oil and wear and tear. I was in line ahead of the feller running the village garbage truck so add in my share of lost productivity and government waste. It was 33 degrees and windy so don't forget to add a share for the gas company and the furnace fixin' feller. They sell groceries at the store. Someone has to pay for the county health inspector. The county also sends the lady that certifies the deli scale (not to mention the other one who puts the stamp on the gas pump outside).

This kind of accounting is misleading. What would the 34 warships or 40 aircraft be doing otherwise? It cost money to operate those things regardless if they are tasked to protect the President or docked at Norfolk.

Newsweek magazine is reporting that "Most of his three day visit will be devoted to ceremonial tourism and talks to business groups. "

Well there's that and the very important visit with the s@x workers by Michelle.

What's that about? Is she thinking about promoting that particular industry here as a jobs creation thing?

I would think that 2 billion is way over the actual amount. However since it has been suggested the voters should storm the white house web site with concern and a call for a change if it is even 10 times less then that which would make it 200 million. I have. He can just stay home and make a phone call.
