The federal government budget deficit for the first month of fiscal year 2024 was $532.2 billion. Extrapolated through the end of the fiscal year 2024, which ends on 9/30/2024, that would be $6.4 trillion for the entire fiscal year. Also, if the pace of deficit creation in October continues at that rate, the national debt will reach $40 trillion by October 2024, the first month of fiscal year 2025.
