Obamacare: Naive, Hypocritical and Dishonest?
The President has taken his push for government-run health care on the road, as he was in Chicago yesterday, making an attempt to convince the AMA to reverse its opposition to government-run health care. CPR's Chairman Rick Scott, writing for The Washington Post, emphasizes the increasing need for competition, and the danger of embracing a government-run plan. The Congressional Budget Office has scored Sen. Ted Kennedy's (D-MA) health plan and is estimating that the plan will cost $1 trillion and only marginally reduce the number of uninsured Americans. Obama's plan is threatening the care of seniors, still has no clear means of financing, and now it seems that his plan is losing support on the Hill. Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT) has confirmed that he is not supporting a government-run plan, and Sen. Kent Conrad (D-ND) does not believe that a government-run plan will make it through the Senate.

I keep hearing Obam talk about the need for a government health plan to guarantee competition.

There are already thousands upon thousands of health insurance plans competing with each other. How does one more plan increase competition?

My sense is that a government plan will push other providers out of the market. In the end there will be less competition and fewer choices for the consumer.

When they finally get to their goal of one provider there will be absolutely no competition.

Maybe in your state. In Washington State the Blue Cross system has the most of the commercial market and Group Health Co-op has most of the non-profit business. The Wife has been a member of Group Health for most of 40 years and has no complaint. Group Health is similar to Kaiser Permanente.

Government IS running health care already. Anyone who's been in the hospital and has had to fight the prices and their insurance company knows that.

Government IS the problem with health care.
