Forget the Constitution

Dr. Robert Higgs, senior fellow at the Oakland-based Independent Institute, penned an article in The Christian Science Monitor (2/9/2009) that suggests the most intelligent recommendation that I’ve read to fix our current economic mess. The title of his article gives his recommendation away: “Instead of stimulus, do nothing—seriously.”

Stimulus package debate is over how much money should be spent, whether some should given to the National Endowment for the Arts, research sexually transmitted diseases or bail out Amtrak, our failing railroad system. Dr. Higgs says, “Hardly anyone, however, is asking the most important question: Should the federal government be doing any of this?”

There was a man in our previous church who once owne the Ben Franklin store here in town, that store was more then 30 years old whe he went bankrupt. Should the governement have bailed him out, did the governement have the responsibility to bail him out? How about the businesses who have to go out of business everyday, should they have been bailed out? In the almost 30 years I've been in this area I've seen hundreds of new and well established businesses go out of business. They all had employees, who were without a job.
life goes on.
The stimulus is greed driven, nothing more, a fix by the all powerful, all rich governement. When in reality, in as many recessions this country has had, the governement has yet to have a billions of dollars stimulus plan, and the econimy rights itself. Some lose, some gian, life goes on. Life isn't perfect, it isn't fair, and constution no where promises the great american dream of having it all to anyone.

Both the stimulus and the bailouts reward the incompetance of big shots who consolidated and counted on their corporate size would shield them from their crookedness. They should be prosecuted for fraud, not rewarded. Sadly, their political associates are conspiringwith them and sticking us with the debt. If these business ventures had been allowed to go under... the community of smaller and successful businesses would go to the top and the brief pain we all might feel from the shakeup of confidence and economy would recover with renewed strength.
