Iraq as a free nation

I know WHY we did it, and it had nothing to do with correct military strategy or a desire to see our troops home. But that being said, pulling our troops now will prove to be one of the biggest mistakes any world leader has made since Neville Chamberlain tried appeasement with Germany.
Going into Iraq was a mistake.

Your scenario of troops invading and overthrowing the government will probably not happen. As to the question of whether or not the current government will last, I think the answer is no, it won't. But as to what will happen to the current government, and when, that is the question I think you are trying to get at.
I see the Shiite and Sunni factions terrorizing each other with Iran giving financial aid and weaponry. The Sunni faction will be clandestinely supported by the U.S. There will be truck bombings, assassinations, armed skirmishes but no all out civil war. Something just short of chaos.
No doubt the current regime will be replaced, but by votes or by force? Will Iraq remain a democracy, turn into a false democracy, or go back to a dictatorship?

We should had gone into Afghan first and foremost. Even though we got Huessain, still the US should had gone into Afghan. Things would had been different if they gone into Afghan first. There are could ofs, should ofs, and would ofs.
But then unfortunately, the focus went off from Afghan to Iraq.
Pray for those people in Iraq as the US moves out. And that they will get things done under God's guidance.:1_grouphug:

Really? I recall the early days of entry to that country. We found bases that had airplane fusilages set up for training terrorists. We found a leader who had grand plans to rule the world, and who had acted on those plans in plain sight -- what happened to his arsenal is still a mystery to most of us, but someone knows -- he USED the stuff on the Kurds.
We were also able to establish a much needed military presence on the western edge of Iran, something that presumably we have now given away.
You have probably bought into the liberal talking points on this issue.

I don't think Viet Nam will take it over :laugh: , but I do think Iran will begin to move against them.
We thought we could build a democratic nation out of Iraq but forgot that as bad as Hussein was he still served as a counter weight to Iran. We were a victim of our own good intentions.

I chose other. The current government is not really a settled government so even if we stayed it could change drastically. Iran already has a very big influence in what is going on their and since we were not willing to deal with Iran it makes no difference if our military stays or not so bring them home. One more thing. We had no business there in the first place and what we have done is make things worst not better.

Bill I think there is a lot of truth in what you are saying here. There is no question this military pull out is a sham and is being replaced with other government officials as well as hidden military personnel, special ops and such..The problem here is none of this would be necessary if we had not illegally invaded Iraq. While the American people are again being fooled by what the government is claiming there will be very little difference in spending on Iraq because of what is really going on.

We did not illegally invade Iraq. Moreover, when Iraq was invaded there were a consensus of world powers that helped with the process under UN mandate.
Your memory is deficient on this issue.

No I remember very well and yes it was an illegal invasion. You are correct that we went through all the proper channels, but we used information that was not correct to get the approval. That makes it illegal. I have a strong suspicion that the real reason Colin Powell really left the administration was he found out we invaded on false pretenses.
