With a glad heart. However, I would not let it replace my parental duty to train up my own child, I would still give my personal instruction.

On the one hand, it sounds pretty dumb. But on the other, it's a lot better than the way schools here freak out at the mere mention of a piece of plastic shaped like a gun, or shipping little boys off to counselling because they committed the unforgivable sin of going "bang bang" with their finger.

And I give them credit for at least trying to teach the children some semblance of gun safety.

Our children were already pretty familiar with BB guns by the time they were in first or second grade, a .22 when they were a little older, and shotguns and handguns when they were old enough (i.e. big enough that it wouldn't knock them on their butts).

It seems a bit silly at first glance, but the goals are admirable. I don't have a problem with it.

Sounds like a good program to me. Gun safety needs to be taught early, and homes that choose to be gun free need training more than those who are already taught at home.
