It had been six decades since the last cave was discovered. But this one just had broken jars, no scrolls:

Dr. Randall Price co-directed the excavation and found fragments of at least eight jars inside the cave believed to have contained scrolls.

Reminiscent of when Geraldo Rivera opened Al Capone's vault.

The bedoins likely found the caves years before and sold the fragments. This has been known to happen. Once the bedoins found out the scrolls were worth something, they actually made some into fragments to get more money.

I heard an expert in the scrolls talk about this a number of years back.
