Maryland Governor Taxes Rain: Stupid Alert!

Maryland Democratic Governor Martin O’Malley has instituted a tax on citizens for the amount of rain that falls on their property.

The tax, officially known as a "storm water management fee," will be enforced in nine of the state's counties. The state legislature passed it in 2012 purportedly to "raise revenue to cleanup [sic] the Chesapeake Bay," according to MarylandReporter.com.

Former 2012 GOP U.S. Senate candidate Dan Bongino bashes the tax in a Wednesday afternoon press release. The law "requires individuals, businesses, and even charitable organizations and houses of worship to pay a tax based on the amount of rain that falls on their property and the 'impervious surfaces' on their land," he says.

The tax, mandated by the EPA and enforced locally, will be calculated "through satellite surveillance of your property," the statement claims.

and repealed the death penalty...
and passed an "assault weapons" ban...

When I was growing up, NJ was cool till around 1975 & AT&T let in all these people from around the country...indeed, around the world. Our taxes & property values went thru the roof....then 911 (along with the Homo Governor) and NY's escaping the city.....then that big Wall Street creep Corzine as another ultra liberal Goren....they chased out any future growth as well as existing business. Leaves the area a waist land....so I will trade ya.

I often see the terms stupid, ignorant, dumb, etc. used in conjuction with the political forces at play in this nation.

Far from being "stupid" and such, these are well calculated moves made by people who are fully aware of what they are doing. Well educated in what it takes to achieve their goals. They are currently relying on many within their sphere of influence to be looking the other way. To be pre-occupied with whatever takes their attention away from both God and what their government representatives are doing.

Maryland taxes the rain. Oregon forbids collecting rainwater for personal use. California denies farmers water to irrigate their crops because of some "endangered" whatever it was.

Ain't nutting stoopid bout gitting folk to submit to dem what thinks day's gods (little g) and knoes what's de best for we'uns.

That's the truth. The major problem here is that the districts keep getting reorganized to minimize the impact of conservative voters. The dems have a complete majority and are pretty much unassailable. But there are plans in the works to blunt that... ever hear of a DINO?

OR in some areas also charges for rain that you can't collect. I would think auto sales people ought to start selling cars to people that can't have the car once purchased, they could decrease their inventory greatly!

OR is not to be listed along with TX in my mind. It is the most liberal tax laden place I've seen. The land use laws are totally freakish. You have to have a permit to do anything on your property.

Okay, why does Oregon forbid collecting rainwater for personal use? You know 50 years ago, we used to think that Oregon would be a nice place to live. It is a good thing that I never moved there.

State law in Oregon says all water is publicly owned, therefore, if you want to store any of it - apparently no matter where it originally comes from - you have to obtain a permit from state water gatekeepers.

This post is getting too long to also include the limitations placed upon point #7. For example, I could not collect rainwater from my roof (impervius surface) because my roof does not meet their code. If it did, then I'd have to comply detailed code requirements for every inch of travel of that rain water.

According to what I've read so far, even if my roof met their specifications, I can't set a bucket under the eaves of my house to capture a couple of gallons to water my house plants. That is if I want to be fully compliant with their rules and regulations of what God blessed us with when He released the waters from heaven and earth.

The water treatment plants seem to be over run with rain water, many cities have stopped allowing rain water to sent to the water treatment plants.
