Maryland Governor Taxes Rain: Stupid Alert!

Maryland Democratic Governor Martin O’Malley has instituted a tax on citizens for the amount of rain that falls on their property.

The tax, officially known as a "storm water management fee," will be enforced in nine of the state's counties. The state legislature passed it in 2012 purportedly to "raise revenue to cleanup [sic] the Chesapeake Bay," according to MarylandReporter.com.

Former 2012 GOP U.S. Senate candidate Dan Bongino bashes the tax in a Wednesday afternoon press release. The law "requires individuals, businesses, and even charitable organizations and houses of worship to pay a tax based on the amount of rain that falls on their property and the 'impervious surfaces' on their land," he says.

The tax, mandated by the EPA and enforced locally, will be calculated "through satellite surveillance of your property," the statement claims.

I really hate this state... :(

Owe'malley also just raised taxes on gas...
and repealed the death penalty...
and passed an "assault weapons" ban...

He seems to be doing his best to drive away hard working citizens and trying to let the lowlifes and criminals take over...

When I was growing up, NJ was cool till around 1975 & AT&T let in all these people from around the country...indeed, around the world. Our taxes & property values went thru the roof....then 911 (along with the Homo Governor) and NY's escaping the city.....then that big Wall Street creep Corzine as another ultra liberal Goren....they chased out any future growth as well as existing business. Leaves the area a waist land....so I will trade ya.

In the title, you said "Maryland Governor Taxes Rain: Stupid Alert!

There's nothing stupid about it.

I often see the terms stupid, ignorant, dumb, etc. used in conjuction with the political forces at play in this nation.

Far from being "stupid" and such, these are well calculated moves made by people who are fully aware of what they are doing. Well educated in what it takes to achieve their goals. They are currently relying on many within their sphere of influence to be looking the other way. To be pre-occupied with whatever takes their attention away from both God and what their government representatives are doing.

Maryland taxes the rain. Oregon forbids collecting rainwater for personal use. California denies farmers water to irrigate their crops because of some "endangered" whatever it was.

Ain't nutting stoopid bout gitting folk to submit to dem what thinks day's gods (little g) and knoes what's de best for we'uns.

Well Maryland wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't for the strip of blue that runs from Baltimore to DC... In fact, most of the Eastern Shore (where my bride is from) and western MD are solidly red conservatives (it amuses me that red is now used for conservative...).

And no you don't want to trade because we are hot on the heels of what you saw 30 years ago... I doubt you want to see it happen again.

Precisely.

Owe'Malley and Frosh and the rest of the wanna be autocrats in Annapolis know exactly what they are doing. And get ready for it to go national, cause O'malley is definitely preparing to run for POTUS in 2016.

That's the truth. The major problem here is that the districts keep getting reorganized to minimize the impact of conservative voters. The dems have a complete majority and are pretty much unassailable. But there are plans in the works to blunt that... ever hear of a DINO?

OR in some areas also charges for rain that you can't collect. I would think auto sales people ought to start selling cars to people that can't have the car once purchased, they could decrease their inventory greatly!

OR is not to be listed along with TX in my mind. It is the most liberal tax laden place I've seen. The land use laws are totally freakish. You have to have a permit to do anything on your property.

Okay, why does Oregon forbid collecting rainwater for personal use? You know 50 years ago, we used to think that Oregon would be a nice place to live. It is a good thing that I never moved there.

Oregon man convicted of collecting rainwater on his own property surrenders and begins serving 30-day jail sentence
......

State law in Oregon says all water is publicly owned, therefore, if you want to store any of it - apparently no matter where it originally comes from - you have to obtain a permit from state water gatekeepers.

Gary Harrington, Oregon Resident, Sentenced To Jail For Stockpiling Rainwater

The alleged wet bandit tells CNSNews.com: "When something is wrong, you just, as an American citizen, you have to put your foot down and say, ‘This is wrong; you just can’t take away anymore of my rights and from here on in, I’m going to fight it.” http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/08/16/gary-harrington-oregon-water-rainwater_n_1784378.html

Man jailed for collecting rainwater in illegal reservoirs on his property
An Eagle Point, Ore., man has begun serving a 30-day jail sentence after he built three reservoirs on his property to collect rainwater -- an apparent violation of a state law that says all water is publicly owned.
....

"What we're after is compliance with Oregon water law, regardless of what the public thinks of Mr. Harrington," Paul told the Mail Tribune.

Oregon Couple Faces Tsunami-Size Fine for Pool
"No person shall be permitted to fill, strip, install pipe, undertake construction, or in any way alter an existing water resource area without first obtaining a permit to do so," reads the town's "Water Resource Area Protection" code.

Bundy doesn't dispute that his pool builders did this, but he does say that city officials previously approved the pool's construction. He also says that if he removes the pool without a consent agreement with the city or without receiving a court or city order, he may not sue the city for the cost of removing the pool. To date, West Linn has not officially ordered him to remove the pool or been open to any other consent agreement than one that requires him to pay the city for its legal costs and waive his right to sue it, he says. http://realestate.aol.com/blog/2012...size-fine-for-pool/?ncid=txtlnkusaolp00000058

The Water Code
http://www.oregon.gov/owrd/pages/pubs/aquabook_laws.aspx

Under Oregon law, all water is publicly owned. With some exceptions, cities, farmers, factory owners, and other water users must obtain a permit or water right from the Water Resources Department to use water from any source— whether it is underground, or from lakes or streams. Generally speaking, landowners with water flowing past, through, or under their property do not automatically have the right to use that water without a permit from the Department.

7. Rainwater: collection and use of rainwater from an artificial impervious surface (like a parking lot or a building’s roof).

This post is getting too long to also include the limitations placed upon point #7. For example, I could not collect rainwater from my roof (impervius surface) because my roof does not meet their code. If it did, then I'd have to comply detailed code requirements for every inch of travel of that rain water.

According to what I've read so far, even if my roof met their specifications, I can't set a bucket under the eaves of my house to capture a couple of gallons to water my house plants. That is if I want to be fully compliant with their rules and regulations of what God blessed us with when He released the waters from heaven and earth.

The water treatment plants seem to be over run with rain water, many cities have stopped allowing rain water to sent to the water treatment plants.
