Influence of sketchy Presbyterian church at Newsweek Media Group uncovered:

Problems Abound at Newsweek
During a 90-minute staff meeting on Tuesday, Chief Content Officer Jonathan Davis asked staffers to hold hands and pray

Davis reportedly asked staffers to thank Olivet University for their help in providing capital....The university is headed by a church led by the controversial Rev. David Jang

problems facing Newsweek. Last month, investigators seized 18 computer servers. Newsweek Media Group is allegedly being investigated for engaging in advertiser fraud, buying traffic, and inflating viewership numbers to assuage clients who buy ad space on its website.

Employees of Jang’s ministry and college have been the subject of inquiry for some time. Workers are often overworked and underpaid, working 10- to 12-hour days in some instances and earning as little as $125 per week for full-time work.

Newsweek’s future in doubt
The reporter who was fired, Katz, along with Josh Saul and Josh Keefe of Newsweek’s sister site International Business Times have written articles about the organizational chaos in recent weeks. Among other stories, Katz, Saul, and Keefe reported that the Manhattan DA’s January raid was connected to an investigation into the financial connections between the founders and Olivet University, a Christian college in California.
Katz’s firing, along with uncertainty about Saul’s and Keefe’s future, gives the appearance of retaliation carried out against reporters who investigated their own company....Katz was escorted out of the newsroom to a standing ovation.
