Obama to policy cancellees: "Just shop, if you're dropped"

President Obama defended his signature health care law Wednesday in a speech from Boston, saying that people who are losing their insurance plans because of the law should start shopping around for better coverage.

Speaking at historic Faneuil Hall, Obama acknowledged the problem-plagued rollout of ObamaCare and attempted to deflect criticism over the wave of cancellation notices hitting small businesses and individuals who buy their own insurance.

The cancellation notices apply to people whose plans changed after the law was implemented or don't meet new coverage requirements. The president said those changes ensure that all Americans are able to get quality coverage.

"So if you're getting one of these letters, just shop around in the new marketplace. That's what it's for," Obama said. "Because of the tax credits that we are offering, and the competition between insurers, most people are going to be able to get better, comprehensive healthcare plans for the same price or even cheaper than projected."
The evidence to the contrary is overwhelming. The tax credits wind up costing everyone -- does he even know where taxes come from? Or that when you give someone a tax credit over here, someone else over there has to pay more? There is no competition between insurers in most markets. Two companies isn't competition. The policies aren't better, they are more heavily laden with unnecessary coverage at too high a price to be affordable. What, for example, does a 24-year-old single male non-smoker without a history of heart, kidney or liver disease need with pre- and post-maternity care, pediatric care, geriatric care, or catastrophic care? Yet he has to buy it, because the law says so.

We need to get the impeachment effort off the ground if we're gonna save this country!

He is so obtuse. It is not just about have insurance. It is about having the plan you need and want and there is no good reason to lose.

I'm shopping right now because I won't be able to keep my current plan. It is being replaced because it does not comply with new ACA requirements. My current plan is no longer good because it does not have MATERNITY and NEWBORN care. The alternative plan which is the closest to my current plan is $96 more per month. Or I can get a plan with a higher deductible for $54 more per month. This is going through the insurance company, not the insurance exchange.
