Platt's IMB Plan a Success: Nearly A Thousand Missionaries Step Down

The goal announced last August was:

to reduce the total number of personnel by approximately 600-800 people.

The result's been:

983 missionaries and 149 stateside staff transitioning outside the IMB over the past six months.

IMB President David Platt told trustees the organization now expects to operate a balanced budget for 2017

The number of missionaries on the field is now around 3,800

I have been told that the totals of Voluntary Retirement Initiative have reached somewhere around 750. . . .Since the VRI was supposed to reach between 600 to 800, it seems that it can be seen as successful in its purpose

It says they transitioned outside the IMB. That doesn't mean they aren't still missionaries.

I suppose those who transitioned out of the IMB camp can now be considered IMB (Independent Missionary Baptists).
