If one goes beyond the lurid headline and actually reads the story, it says that the problem was that the girl kept the bag in the bathroom where she was sick and that's how it got contaminated. There's nothing inherently germ attracting about reusable grocery bags. Like anything else they should be cleaned from time to time, but if used and stored properly they pose no more risk than anything else we encounter in our lives. I'm no environmental wacko by any stretch, but I've been using these bags for years with no problem, and it's an easy and intelligent thing we can all do to reduce landfill volume. People shouldn't be scared away from doing it because of sensationalistic stories like this with the real facts buried deep beneath a misleading (at best) headline.
