Simply what I said. TCU (they don't like to use the name "Texas Christian University") does not represent itself as a Christian university.

The name is a relic from the early days of the school. The Disciples of Christ denomination (quite liberal BTW), has no governing influence.

Here's a bit of an explanation.

This is from the TCU website --

Our Mission: To educate individuals to think and act as ethical leaders and responsible citizens in the global community.

Church relationship
  • TCU is the largest of 21 colleges, universities and theological institutions associated by an ongoing covenant with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
  • A mainline protestant denomination with Presbyterian and Baptist roots, the Disciples are a faithful, growing church body that values true community, deep Christian spirituality and a passion for justice.
  • TCU’s covenant with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) supports an approach to education that values scholarship, reason and intellectual inquiry while simultaneously honoring the importance of one’s faith and religious identity.
  • With the full support of the Disciples, TCU is committed to the highest standards of academic inquiry, affording students the rigorous challenges that make higher education worthwhile.
  • Students come from more than 60 religious traditions and can participate in 22 recognized student religious organizations on campus, including groups for Christian, Jewish and Muslim students.
