This past week, Iowa Governor Terry Branstad signed a proclamation inviting all Iowans to turn from their wicked ways and embrace Christianity.

To be fair, the proclamations of Branstad are not equivalent to his endorsing whatever cause may be involved. This is stated as clearly as possible on his official website, where it says, “Issuance of a proclamation does not constitute an endorsement by the Governor.”
It may be a bit confusing to those unfamiliar with the governor’s proclamations, but they are actually a constituent service offered by the office that any group can request.
In fact, one day before signing a proclamation inviting Iowans to pray in accordance with a biblical verse, Branstad signed a proclamation announcing Muslim Recognition Day, a version of which he originally signed back in 1992 during his first tenure in the executive office. The proclamation was paired with a celebration at the Capitol Building showcasing Muslim food and information about Islam.

It's one thing to read that and understand it. It's another to see the headline without knowing what you just said.

This is dangerous. I'm all for him doing what he did and think it takes a lot of conviction. I just don't think from a Constitutional perspective that it's something he should not have done in the capacity of his duties as the Governor because it could EASILY be miscontrued as the government attempting to establish religion.

If you're at church and someone interviews you as someone who goes to church who just happens to be the governor, that's one thing. But this opens too many doors the way it was done.

And he's Catholic, isn't he? Is that the brand of "Christianity" he's advocating?

I would tend to agree with you. The article seems to say that this is something akin to pleasing a group of constituents and not much else. Which seems consistent with the previous days signing of a proclamation regarding Islam. Sends a bit of a confusing message at the very least.
