Since I am pro-choice, I believe that the choice of having a plastic bag should be between a customer and his grocer

Progressives do not want to aim litter laws at the people who litter so they make everyone suffer. Have you ever been caught on foot in a rainstorm coming from the grocery store in a big city with paper bags?

Pragmatically this is a great idea of carried out properly. Plastic bags are not banned here, but you have to pay a surcharge. The result has been a dramatic decrease is the ugliness of plastic bags all over the place.

Most folks now just carry their own bags to go shopping.

Here in the suburbs, they take pride in the cleanliness of the area. It is an urban problem. However, the old city of Indianapolis is still clean.

And who's going enforce this idiotic ban? The police? Like Chicago police officers don't have better things to do? I can see it now: Chicago SWAT surrounds a rogue supermarket that wants to use up the last of its plastic bags so they don't go to waste. Shoppers panic, officers fire ... oh, the humanity. Cut to commercial.

No. I saw the point. The right way to do it is to give a choice, but charge for plastic if you want to regulate it.

The idea is good, but a ban is not the way to solve it.

In Hawaii, my wife and I would buy the reusable cloth bags from the commissary. Imagine our surprise when we got home and instead of using our newly bought cloth bag for our groceries, the bagger had double wrapped our eco friendly bag in two plastic bags!

Generally speaking I oppose all new laws.

The plastic bag ban is yet another example of liberals having good intentions without caring about actual results or outcomes.

I can't imagine liquor stores wanting to open their doors earlier on Sundays than they currently are. Here in Minnesota there is no off-sale alcohol sales allowed on Sundays though someone is pushing to allow it (I suppose border town store owners). Over 75% of the liquor store owners oppose it because they would have to be open another day, pay their workers another day and not see any significant increase in sales to support it. If you can't remember to buy your booze on Saturday to get you through to Monday, you do have a drinking problem!

That's a good one!

I think that freedom means that the grocer can give you a plastic bag if he wants to. People shouldn't litter but because they do does not mean that everybody has to suffer. But then the cities are probably dirty.

Chicago is well known for enforcing only laws that affect already law abiding citizens. They're easy to bully.

The criminal element gets to do whatever they want. Relatively unchallenged.
