Union thuggery in Philadelphia

Burning down a church strikes most Americans, including dissenters and nonbelievers, as a crime beyond comprehension. But the FBI last week provided the evidence to charge 10 members of a Philadelphia ironworkers union with torching a Quaker church.

Calling themselves “Those Helpful Union Guys” or “THUGs,” they sabotaged a nonunion construction site two years ago at the Chestnut Hill Friends Meeting House.

In a scene out of “The Sopranos,” the violence against these peaceful churchgoers was designed to send a message to the neighborhood that this would happen to them, too, if they hired nonunion labor. Welcome to the city of brotherly hate.

At the request of the U.S. attorney, a grand jury indicted members of Ironworkers Local 401 for conspiracy, assault, arson and related crimes.

Not the first time. I lived in the Philly suburbs and a few years ago, during an election, union leader John Dougherty (aka "Johnny Doc") ordered his goons to beat an opposition supporter half to death.

Nothing happened. Philadelphia is one of the most corrupt cities in the country and unions have a huge voice there.

Personally, I believe Philadelphia needs another Wilson Goode to bomb the place and finish the job.

Having grown up in a small "bedroom community" about 25 miles away from "The City of 'Brothery Love,'" I can attest to the rather violent environment of the Keystone State's largest city.

While Philly probably is no more violent than other major metropolises such as Chicago, Detroit, or Los Angeles (all of which have had very liberal Democrat mayors for several decades), it faces the same challenges that most other urban centers have to confront.

I don't see the situation changing very much in the foreseeable future.

Part of the problem lies in the fact that, under the ill-advised liberal social agenda that our society has been burdened with for the past several decades, we face a society that has been burdened with laws and regulations that have been enacted by the Politically Correct Establishment that is entrenched at almost all levels of our nation's governments.

Its aim is to keep as many people as possible dependent on welfare handouts from "Uncle Sugar."

Instead of promoting an environment of using one's own talents with which God blessed individuals, "the powers that be" want to keep us "feeding at the 'hog trough'" that liberal self-serving politicians have created.

Our Founding Fathers never intended to have our governments develop into a "nanny state," but that's exactly what we have today.

Would to God that we as a society would rise up and "kick the bums out" of their political offices and/or other positions of authority!!

Do I see such a revolution taking place in the foreseeable future?

Sad to say, but with very few exceptions, I do not.

I hope that I'm found to be incorrect in my assessment of our nation's future, but, alas, I don't believe it will occur.
