I think the praise to God was that these innocent little girls were spared a much worse fate more than praising that two criminals had been shot. However, there is now no need for a trial and then a failure to implement the death penalty against the murderer who broke in.

This girl did what she had to, no doubt. I do hope she finds good christian counseling and peace of mind. Killing is not, nor should it ever be, easy. I am praying for her. :praying:

I do think it is sad that some are glorifying in the death of another human being. Yes, he was a criminal and he was wrong, but now he does not have a chance to find God. I am not saying he should not have been shot, because that little girl did what she had to to protect herself, but it is still a sad situation. Also, let's refrain from using racial epithets. We would not call a black criminal the n word, and we should not call a Hispanic one a wetback. it's offensive and not very Christ like.

    Completely uncalled for.

I am surprised by the support of this girl and the use of a gun during a home invasion. This moment is certainly noted.

Huh? I understand your sarcasm, but I'm not really sure who it is targeted against? I support gun control measures, especially in who can own/buy a gun and how they should be stored, but I still support the second amendment.

I am also surprised people are not taking me at my word. It is unprecedented.

"Wetback" may not be the most polite thing to say, but it's a term that refers to an illegal immigrant from Mexico. Were these men illegals? If so, even if impolite, it's correct.

As far as the "n" word goes, while I find it offensive (but appropriate in certain circumstances), as long as blacks use it, it should be fair game.

My wife (who is from Puerto Rico) and I (with a heavy Irish background) call our son our little Spic-Mick. Our business was incorporated under the name "Spic and Mick".

Some words only have power if you let them.

(While the invaders risked this very thing happening, I am appalled that you would applaud someone's death. Burglary isn't a capital crime. I am not surprised this happened, but the death of someone is no reason to rejoice.)

    It is in our house!:wavey:

I don't think God was ever lost, or have been playing hide and go seek with any of His creation. I believe He is the One who seeks out His own.
Having said that, back to the OP.

I don't know if this story is even true, but if it is, then I do hope as well that the girl is not traumatized by that experience, or that it doesn't rub in the wrong way on her.

Anybody who has ever been in combat knows the feeling of nausea and emptiness one feels after the smell of gunpowder dies down and the ringing in the ears go away and hearing slowly comes back and the adrenalin starts going down and you look around at dead bodies and know that somehow you also were responsible for the deaths of the enemies who in another time would probably be with his wife and children or his mother and father and brothers.

Now killing rubs in on others the wrong way, and they become kill hungry.

Here is one of the posts made under the "story". I believe it has some merit. But I could be wrong.

Hmm - convenient timing and no verifiable source? Sounds suspicious. Looks like one of "those" stories. I can't believe I got caught up in it. I am Mr Sceptic normally

I googled the name Resendez Ramirez yesterday and came up with the 'railroad serial killer', now sentenced to death. And the story did sound suspicious, but since it was James Newman who posted it, I gave it the benefit of a doubt, and still do.
I think James_Newman is less gullible and more intelligent than I can hope to be.
But....you know what they say, there's always a first time.

?? Did this not actually happen? It seems like a strange thing to end up as a UL, especially since people kill other people who break into their homes more often than you might think. The NRA magazine used to have a page-full of incidents every month. "The Armed Citizen", I think it was called. With a second look, it does carry some of the typical trappings of a UL, however. (Illegal immigrants, "helpless" victim, shot in the genitals, etc.)

In Texas, the laws for using deadly force are quite lax. You can shoot anyone who breaks into your house, and you can shoot someone who is driving away in your car (assuming they just stole it. It won't work if you offer to let your mother-in-law drive it to the store). There was a case several years ago where a man shot a carload of teenagers who had stolen his hubcaps. These laws are supposedly leftovers from when ranchers could shoot to kill cattle rustlers.

As for the term "wetback", I agree it's certainly not a compliment, but it really only means someone who has entered the USA illegally. That is, it's not in the same league as the "N" word or "greaser" for example. Next time I'll just say "Latino".

Sorry guys, looks like I got suckered in. It was on Digg and I was getting ready to leave for the day, so I just swallowed it hook line and sinker.

Amazing how racists quickly hold up their hand to self-identify. I believe such racial slurs are forbidden here.

Have fun at the next cross-burning! You won't see me there.

I am closing this, partly because James has graciously admitted his error in starting in, but primarily because of the rampant racism which has run through it.
