I have seen some references to these days, on another thread here, and I can understand the temptation to conform to other denominations practices, in order to appear conciliatory.

But this is a temptation, that must be resisted.
By acknowledging these days, we send the message that “all churches are the same”, and that doctrine doesn’t really matter.
    --------------------------------------------------
    Palm Sunday:
(Holy Week begins with the sixth Sunday in Lent.)

    Maundy Thursday:
(The colors for Maundy Thursday are usually the colors of Lent, royal purple or red violet.)

    Good Friday
(Some churches do observe communion on Good Friday. However, traditionally Eucharist is not served on Good Friday since it is a celebration of thanksgiving.)

    Holy Saturday
(While Good Friday is a traditional day of fasting, some also fast on Saturday as the climax of the season of Lent.)
    --------------------------------------------------
These observances shouldn’t even be in our vocabulary, let alone on our Church calendar.

The LORD has told us, to come out from among them, and be separate.

Well, of course YOUR church is the only one with right doctrine, so WE have to copy you, right??

Any church that doesn't have a Good Friday service needs to repent and believe the gospel. Any preacher who gives the death/resurrection of Jesus a mention on Easter and that's it should do the Lord a favor and resign and go sell insurance. While some churches make this kind of thing a ritual, some Baptist churches have their own liturgical ritual that they think is salvific in some way. But the fact that they do doesn't mean my church does. Same is true of Holy Week, Advent, etc.

You are dead right. This blanket condemnation on the part of this poster of late is not Biblical.

A Good Friday service is wrong?
The Lord's Table at such a service is wrong?
A Palm Sunday service is wrong?
A weekly observance of the Lord's Table is wrong?

Who can make that determination for a local church?

You have got to be kidding me.

    That there's crazy talk.

You know, we shouldn't sing, either. I heard one time a Catholic did that.
And we definitely shouldn't do the Lord's Supper. Folks might mistake us for a cult.

Gee whiz, the OP is completely divorced from reality.

I think you missed a word here.

You said, "You are dead" (?)

    You surely meant....

    ..."You are dead on" or

..."You are dead right" or perhaps

    ..."You are dead wrong"

I only mention it because I don't want someone who doesn't know you to think you are threatening a poster.:flower:

    :1_grouphug:

    peace to you:praying:

    You're kidding, aren't you?

Celebrating Palm Sunday is wrong? Ce.ebrating Maundy or Holy Thursday is wrong? Celebrating Good Friday is wrong? Celebrating Holy Saturday is wrong?

If that's so, then worshipping on Sunday is wrong, since the word "Sunday" is not in scripture. I hope you don't have an advent wreath in your church, because celebrating Advent is also wrong then. On, and even celebrating Christmas Day and Easter Day are wrong.

    Sheesh!

I'll stick to what Paul says: Let no man judge me by what feast days I keep.

    Wow.

I would love to see Scriptural reasons why I shouldn't celebrate any of those observances.

The church where I get to serve is currently planning our Easter season and we are going to be including most all of these holidays. We are planning are more liturgical expression this year. We believe it will enhance our community and deepen our theology. :)

Us to. We are in the preplanning stages for all our weeks up to and including Easter. Good move on liturgical expression. Our worship format incorporates a liturgical style, and it's very deepening theologically. I highly recommend it.

    Hello everyone.

No, I won’t resign and sell insurance: I care too much about souls, to do that.

To began with, my Church celebrates Easter every Sunday, and therefore we don’t make a very big deal, when “the world’s Easter", comes around.
Yes I said “the world’s Easter”.

We have a world around us and in our own families, who are as religious as we are, yet are dying and going to hell, and we don’t seem to care.
    --------------------------------------------------
    TomVols said........
“Any church that doesn't have a Good Friday service needs to repent and believe the gospel.”

What Gospel are you talking about Tom?

According to the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ, Jesus died on Wednesday.
    Matthew 12:40
“For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale’s belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.”

And your observance of “good Friday”, demonstrates that your worship is meaningless....
    Mark 7:7
“Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching [for] doctrines the commandments of men.”
    --------------------------------------------------
    The Lord said..........
    Matthew 7:13-14
V.13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide [is] the gate, and broad [is] the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
V.14 Because strait [is] the gate, and narrow [is] the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

Don’t you’ll realize, that true salvation has NOTHING to do with being religious.
And that ALL of these religious practices are man made.

They don’t do anything for the soul, and there is serious doubt, that they please the LORD at all.
    --------------------------------------------------
Now Johnv got it right, when he said..........
“I'll stick to what Paul says: Let no man judge me by what feast days I keep.”

None of us should let anyone else, dictate how we worship.
If you want to carry a wooden cross around for Holy week, that’s fine with me.

But you should consider what this does to those around you.

How it sends the wrong message about what true Christianity is all about......
    Matthew 11:28
“Come unto me, all [ye] that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
    --------------------------------------------------
Now annsni suggested, that I have wickedness in my heart, because of these challenges that I have been giving you, to forsake all this man-made stuff, and get back to the Bible.

No, I am not motivated by wickedness at all. I just care about souls.

Except for you, of course, dictating to us how we should worship.

I think they are good challenges and exhortations. I am all for going by the Bible and allowing it to prescribe how and when God is to be worshipped both personally and in the assembly.

Stilllearning, you realize you totally contradicted yourself in your post, right?

You may want to read Colossians 2:16 and 17 before you start deciding what is worthless.

Do you think judging the heart of a brother is pleasing the Lord too?

So then don't dictate how anyone else worships. You already questioned the heart and worship of one. Is that pleasing to God? I think not. THAT is what will turn others away from Christ, not our observance of Good Friday, that focuses on the great sacrifice that Christ made on the cross. Whether it was Friday, Wednesday or Monday, I don't care. Christ died, did He not? I'm sure it wasn't the Sunday we celebrate in March or April but who cares? What matters is that we remember the wonder of that day. Without it, we would not be who we are.

If you cared about souls, then you'd be out there seeking lost ones, not castigating and calling into question the hearts of those who love the Lord. I still do not see your posts as coming God - but from somewhere else.

    Hi annsni

    You said........
And you support that statement with........
    Colossians 2:16-17
V.16 ¶ Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath [days]:
V.17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body [is] of Christ.

Don’t you realize the context of this statement?
(And how it is in support of my point!)

We should not let anyone judge us, for ignoring restrictions on “meat, or in drink”, or when we walk by faith and not observe “an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days”.
    --------------------------------------------------
Therefore it’s telling me, not to allow all of you, to judge me as some kind heathen, because I refuse to go along with the world’s religious pretenses.

I don't think anyone has questioned your choices, I know I haven't. The problem is your blanket condemnation of anyone who does not stand where you do.

I know *I* never said anything about what you practice. But you've had plenty to say about how my church practices - and even said that my worship is meaningless. So you're judging ME as some kind of heathen. I see where that sort of judging comes from in Scripture - and it's not from God.
