A strictly one sided analysis. I'd like to see an unbiased political analysis, followed by a military assessment.

Despite the fact that it makes no sense for him to do so, I think the President has a screw loose to the point that he would indeed attack Iran.

I agree with your prediction that President Bush will take these United States to war with Iran sometime in 2008. I predict that this will drive oil prices to at least $150/bbl., gasoline prices to at least $6.00/gal., plunge the U.S. and world economies into Great Depression II, and, worst of all, possibly result in the deaths of several thousand U.S. troops within a month's time if millions of Iraqi Shiites rise up in support of Iran.

My guess is that President Bush thinks that he can achieve his aims with air power alone without these United States suffering any blowback next door in Iraq and without the Iranians launching missiles into Saudi Arabian oil fields or tankers in the Strait of Hormuz.

If his aim with any possible future attack is to eliminate their capacity to build nuclear weapons, he may be right. Except for the Strait of Hormuz. Iran, I believe, would seek to retaliate there.

I think they would also. But I'm reasonably sure no lethal enemy will get within 100 miles of the Strait, if we were in war mode.

And I agree with the efficiency of air power in taking out nuke sites.

Anyone heard of the new Russian conventional bomb, many times more powerful than our biggest? I presume it's some sort of air/fuel device.

More likely Bush will bribe Israel to take the first shot.
