CDC Reports Risky Behaviors on the Rise

Is there a cause and effect? Looks like it to me. Definitely a correlation.

WASHINGTON — Teenagers are having more sex than they were in 2001 and condom use declined after the U.S. government increased spending to promote sexual abstinence.

Are you saying we should not teach sexual purity?

The best education is true education. What does the Truth say about this issue?

"Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators...nor adulterers...nor homosexuals...will inherit the Kingdom of God" 1Cor 6:9-10 (in part)

    What will such people inherit?

"But for the...immoral persons...and all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimestone, which is the second death" Rev 21:8 (in part)

    The choice is simple.

Coming from this liberal area of the country this bias is not suprising. However here is another take on it:

Kids today have access to things on the internet that we couldnt even imagine gorwing up. Its sad to say but children today with supposedly "Christ in their heart" are more sexually active than we were as unsaved kids 35 years ago. I blame the internet and the easy access to the porn industry.

The real problem is that abstinance is not being taught at home, where it counts.

Think about it. 50% of all marriages end in divorce. What are kids being taught?

Some here act as if saved kids are the only kids being taught in the public school system and therefore all kids should be taught as we would teach ours. That is shortsighted.

The public school has to take into account that the majority of students there aren't being taught anything about s*x by their parents, except what they see their parents doing. (and kids know exactly what the parents are doing!)

The government can not look on this as a moral issue. We do not live in a theocracy. The government sees teen s*x as public health issue and it has a vested interest in preventing teen pregnancy as well as STD's.

Abstinance can be a big part of that, but there are always kids who are going to do what they see their parents or TV idols doing. They aren't going to listen to that dumb teacher in that boring health class who told them to just not have s*x. So how are you going to prevent those unwanted pregnancies and at the same time prevent the spread of disease?

Ya gotta teach 'em how to use protection.

Some here think this is a bad thing, like teaching abstinance is enough and if the kids still have s*x, they should have to suffer the consequences. This is not good government policy in a world that is already quite full disease nor is it realistic.

I also blame the media and peer pressure. Movies & TV promote being easy. If you are in high school and are not easy the kids assume there is something the matter with you or that you are gay if you don't sleep around.

So very true. I put a lot of the blame on parents. What do we teach our children about sex, do we have a family devotional, do we live what we are teaching our children?

On this we disagree. It has not worked in the state of Florida. Our young people are having sex with each other and if you read the papers with teachers too. Just today on the radio was another woman teacher being charged with having sex with 4 or 5 boys.

I was talking to a young man a few weeks ago about how he could be 17 years old and in court for child support on 3 children? His answer was the girls must have wanted a child, and he couldn't understand why he should pay if he would get a job. Looks like some education was needed basic education would have helped.

He said sex was the big thing today, it is what they talk about, with everyone.

Before I was saved at age 17, I never desired to have sex. Unfortunately, kids today are drowned in a sea of sexually explicit Internet porn and sex on TV--including shows that glorify homosexuality. They are pressured by society and their peers to have sex. Otherwise they're called "gay" if they don't, and no sexually normal person wants that stigma attached to them. When I was in my early 20's (40 years ago), my own dad accused me of being homosexual because I wasn't having sex. That prompted me to get into a bad marriage to prove him wrong.
