All Tennessee's Employment Growth Since 2000 Has Gone to Immigrants; Yet, Natives Accounted for 60% of Population Growth

    Among the findings:

The total number of working-age (16 to 65) immigrants (legal and illegal) holding a job in Tennessee increased by 94,000 from the first quarter of 2000 to the first quarter of 2014, while the number of working-age native-born Americans with a job declined 47,000 over the same time.

The fact that all the long-term net gain in employment among the working-age went to immigrants is striking because the native-born accounted for 60 percent of the increase in the total size of the state's working-age population.

    ---------------
Two key conclusion from the state's employment situation:

First, the long-term decline in the employment of natives in Tennessee and the enormous number of working-age natives not working clearly indicates that there is no general labor shortage in the state. Thus it is very difficult to justify the large increases in foreign workers (skilled and unskilled) allowed into the country by a bill like S.744, which many of Tennessee's politicians support.

Second, Tennessee's working-age immigrant population grew 176 percent from 2000 to 2014, one of the highest rates of any state in the nation. Yet, the number of natives working in 2014 was actually lower than in 2000. This undermines the argument that immigration on balance increases job opportunities for natives.

Please summarize for me would you. Do you consider this blatant greed on the part of employers to hire Illegals vs Native Born USA Citizens?

I don't blame employers at all. Most of them now check immigration status of prospective employees.

The problem: US law makes it illegal to refuse to hire anyone due to immigration status.

Totally renders the immigration law passed under Reagan null and void.

The point of the study, I believe is, that the argument that we often hear that says more immigrants enhance the hiring prospects for citizens and immigrants is baloney.

Obama and his ilk know it and are using it to undermine the economy of the country, as well as stack the deck in their favor from a political demographic standpoint.

The Democrats have two objectives: 1. Easy votes for themselves as most foreigners want big government and most Catholics vote Democrat and 2. Cheap, cheap labor. Rich Democrats want someone to clean the pool, tend to the yard, take care of the car, and watch the children and more--all that means more Hispanics.

Which is why the one in the WH who is not eligible to be our president keeps the holes in our border open. He knows what he is doing -- destruction of our country and constitution is his aim. I wouldn't be surprised if Michael Obama runs next, or, her husband figures out how to institute martial law prior to that in order to extend his dictator mindset.

I agree with what you've said here (minus the Hispanics diatribe) but I honestly doubt that votes against this will ever actually count again. I believe they've stacked the deck, and just in case they also fixed the voting and are working on it again at this time.

In 2008 Catholics were 54% for Obama and in 2012 about 50%. They have been Democrats since before the Civil War--rum, Romanism, rebellion. Hispanics like Papa Government (their words)--in other words, they want a daddy to take care of them. I don't think that there is much rugged individualism among Democrats or Hispanics.

Oh, I didn't mean you personally. There is nothing wrong with having servants and I am sure that you treat your servants quite well.

I don't know about Tennessee, but I know Kansas City.

And I'll just say very matter of fact, that in a lot of cases, I would rather hire an immigrant. For instance:

Friday I was digging a trench, using a walk behind trenching machine. The contractor I worked for had lined up a (white) helper for me, because certain parts of the trench have to be shoveled. I needed to get the trench finished and a conduit in it that day. The guy called in sick. Ok, I understand that. It can happen to anybody

So yesterday my "help" was supposed to show up and start getting that trench ready for me to put pipe in it. I had a long morning meeting with the contractor, then had a run to the bank, and get materials, I get to the job at 1:00 to find my "help" sitting on the back patio. Ok, must have sat down for a break.

I didn't bother him, but unloaded materials out of the back of the truck, which took about 10 minutes.

I get finished, he's still sitting down. I go look in the trench, and closed my eyes - trying to process how someone could be there for at least 4 hours, and only have (maybe) an hour of work done.

This guy sat on the patio for almost a half hour, complaining how hard he'd been working, yada yada...At 3:30, I called the day.

So we had to go back today. I really had a bad feeling about his production, so I rounded up another guy to help, just in case. We got there about 9:00.

The "help" was there already, sitting on the patio. My buddy and I started hand digging the end of the trench, which was about 5 feet, under a fence, next to a light pole. With a tree in the way. After about 2 hours, the "help" had been on the patio about 1-1/2 hours of it. My buddy made a few comments about it, expecting me to get hostile with the guy.

I walked across the yard to the patio said, "brother, I'm going to say this as polite as I know how. I need you to either get a shovel into your hands and start using it, or I need you to get off my job."

He had the audacity to ask "what are you talking about?"

I responded "I'm talking about getting that shovel into your hands, and start digging dirt out of that trench. That's what I'm talking about. Or go home. It's that simple."

Why such a long diatribe? Because I simply would not have had that problem out of an immigrant. They came here to work, not sit on a patio.

And immigrants are willing to do a job most Americans aren't, such as digging trenches. They'll work 23 hours a day if you ask them to. So long as they can leave one guy outside cook all day, they'll be there all day and all night.

Immigrants outwork American folks, hands down. 4 man American drywall crew takes 6 days, 4 man immigrant drywall crew takes 2-1/2 days.

Immigrants aren't afraid to try something new, like installing a door, when all their experience is in painting.

Immigrants understand the value of keeping enough money through the week for lunch every day. Americans blow most of their money before the weekend is over, and are always needing to borrow lunch money by Thursday

Americans seem to think their wages should be based on their spending habits instead of their skill set. Immigrants are just happy to be given an opportunity to work

Mind you, these are sweeping claims, and there are exceptions. But here in Kansas City, I have seen very few of them.

Gimme an immigrant, and I can teach him the skills he needs. But It's hard to teach an American the value of hard work
