    Hmmm, I am starting to worry about your memory. The Little Golden Book series have been around a long time. Indeed, they have been around over 70 years.

    In 1942 twelve titles were published:

    I know many people who live by some "alternate facts;" such as, being outside on a cold, damp day will make them sick, that it's 'bad luck' for the bride and groom to see each other before the wedding on that day, that Columbus' main contention to an unbelieving population was that the world is round, that faster-than-light travel is just a matter of advancing technology,.....

    BTW it's an alternate fact that that book is "golden." It's made of paper.

    Well, let's read and discuss "The Brothers Karamazov". There is much theology in that book. OK? And is that literature advanced enough? :)

    Crime and Punishment is a great book ... but not nearly as deep as "The Brothers Karamazov," "The Idiot," or "Anna Karenina."

    Actually I don't really like the Russian novelists. Yes they are deep but also rambling and lengthy.

    BTW weren't there two books label as "The Idiot" by Russian writers? Dostoevsky and a lesser know author whose name I have forgotten.

    I think rampling and lengthy was the mode of day. It seemed the same with American authors, i.e. Hawthorne and Melville are examples.

    There wall be any number of books published with the title The Idiot. But Dostoevsky is certainly the book that comes to mind whenever that title is mentioned.

    Whenever I read the famous Russians authors there seems to be something dark just under the surface. I can never really put my finger on it but it always seems to be there. Even with the comedic, "Dead Souls" by Gogol has its dark underbelly.

    I rather avoided it, "Dead Souls" for years because of the title. I had no idea it is really a comedy ... a Russian comedy. Seems like an oxymoron doesn't it. When I did read it a few years ago I found it quite interesting.

    It was published in 1842. Dostoyevsky was born in 1821. Gogol influenced Dostoyevsky, his thinking and his writings. The main character in "Dead Souls" was a scam artist. Seems they have been around a long time.

    Gogol was born in 1809. One quote from "Dead Souls" that I like is:

    You can't imagine how stupid the whole world has grown nowadays.

    A quote from Gogol's, "Inspector General" is:

    It is no use to blame the looking glass if your face is awry.

    Hank, I have had the feeling for some time now that we are not as far apart in our thinking as our posts imply. Same is true with Salty.

    The Left cry about alternative facts but fail to see the problem with Jenner's claim to be a woman. Lol.

    And all my lefty FB friends are NOW starting to quote 1984.....oblivious to the past 8 years. 1984 is about totalitarian government and manipulation of thought by the State. To only see Trump in 1984 but turn a blind eye to Obama's 8 years shows a lack of perception.

    I had forgotten until it came up on my memories on FB but 4 years ago I referenced 1984 in regards to Obama's second inaugural address. I also see overtones of 1984 with Trump and his supporters. Getting out of the dulopoply gives one a clearer picture of how both parties are two sides of the same coin.

    Facts can be true even when they are alternative.

    I saved 20% last night on my shopping trip to Bed Bath and Beyond.
    I spent $40 out of the budget that I didn't really need to spend.

    Both are true. I spent and I saved. I could argue one side, you can argue the other, each of us ignoring the other but both facts are true.

    Not logical my friend. The two statements are stand alone. One does not contridict the other.

    Now here is an example of an alternative fact using your comment:

    1 "I saved 20% last night on my shopping trip to Bed Bath and Beyond."

    Alternative facts:
    1. "I saved 75% last night on my shopping trip to Bed Bath and Beyond."
    2. "I saved nothing last night on my shopping trip to Bed Bath and Beyond."

    Definition of duopoly
    1. 1 : an oligopoly limited to two sellers
    2. 2 : preponderant influence or control by two political powers

    In our political case and IMO, one power group veers us to the left, the other to the right.

    I believe it's a necessary evil - assuming we survive.
    Pray that somehow we maintain an even keel and we don't go over a cliff.

    I will be happy when a conservative pro-life justice is appointed to the SCOTUS.
    If not ?? America's checks and balance political party system is in grave danger.

    We need a serious correction to the right.
