    Murtha sued over remarks

    BY MIKE FAHER
    The Tribune-Democrat

In May 2006, six months after 24 people were killed in a small Iraqi town, U.S. Rep. John Murtha made a startling accusation.
American soldiers, he contended, had killed innocent civilians “in cold blood.”

Now, less than six weeks before the longtime Johnstown Democrat is up for re-election, a Marine involved in the now-infamous Haditha incident is suing Murtha for slander.

Good for him! Too many of our elected officials (of both major parties) seem to think they can say anything they want to say, without experiencing any consequences. While I do NOT know what really happened in Haditha, I can state for sure that very few military members, if any, (from any branch of the Armed Forces) would do anything like what Murtha accused our Marines of doing.

Perhaps one of the two lawsuits filed against Murtha will show him and others that they must control their tongues, and perhaps they will then speak fewer "alleged lies" about things they have a political opinion about. Perhaps they will learn to find out the truth BEFORE accusing people they do not know (or have any contact with) of anything.

I believe ther will be a third lawsuit by another Marine soon.

Murtha needs to pay for damaging the reputations of so many of our war veterans and abusing the power of his office.

There needs to be heavy repercussions for the constant libel against our military.

Do you not have the equivalent of our parliamentary privilege over your side of the Pond?

I tried to edit and ended up with the edited one and the unedited one both. I wish there was some way to delete.

While it's possible that a FEW soldiers MIGHT be involved in killing innocents during war time because of the stress and fear, I believe the majority of them wouldn't do that. We who have never fought in a war have no idea what our soldiers are going through--the constant threat of dying and seeing friends die. Then there are the children and other "innocents" who carry bombs and weapons and are told to kill Americans. They don't know who they can trust or if they can trust anyone.

I worked for 28 years in a VA Medical Center and saw the results of war, and it's not pretty. The damaged bodies and minds, the paranoia, the fear, the nightmares, the inability to cope in the world any more. Our veterans deserve our respect, love, admiration, thanks, and gratitude, but they DON'T deserve our hatred, disdain, and accusations of being "baby killers". It's the enemy who will sacrifice any of their innocents that they deem necessary in order to kill as many American soldiers as possible.

I thank God for our soldiers who are willing to fight for their country, and to sacrifice everything if necessary for the peace and freedom we all enjoy, while many of those who enjoy those criticize the military and the soldiers who lay their lives on the line for the rest of us. As a veteran who was fortunate enough not to have to fight in a war, I'm very thankful to those who have and do.

Instead of blaming the US soldiers who are just following orders and trying to stay alive in a hostile, foreign land and in a violent situation, we should blame those who want to rule others and will kill anyone they have to in order to do that.

    There are limits.

    Murtha crossed the line.

he didn't just cross the line, he jumped all up and down on it.
Found this on a Marine Corps parent's website, apparently Murtha missed it: "In the Marine Corps, "honor" is not just a word, it's an unbreakable code that is shared among Marines. It is about respecting others, along with taking responsibility for one's actions. Honor, along with courage and commitment, define who the Marines are and what they stand for."

Are there no libs who are willing to come to Murtha's side? There was certainly at least a few who supported the notion that some military personel did on fact do these thigns.
