So...if I declare that God told me I could have multiple wives, that supercedes Scripture? Or am I Joseph Smith?

True, the example was lame, but the arguement isn't. God speaks through Scripture. He often speaks through circumstance, people, events, even secular television and music. But the Bible is God's revealed word, and it is complete. Nothing may be added to it and be called Scripture.

I know that the Bible states that He gave some apostles, some prophets. It was stated for that time, before the completion of the Canon. We now have the finished product.

Preachers are a form of prophet...the "forth-telling" part. If a man starts predicting the future, take note. The Bible says to prove them. How? watch to see if what they prophesy comes to pass. As far as if they are proved false, I'll let you look up what was done to them.

You are exactly right about the example being lame. So is your argument.
Any true Apostle or Prophet recognizes that prophecy must line up with the scripture. To prophecy does not violate scripture.
I cannot buy the "CESSATIONIST HERESY" that tries to take prophecy out of the Church when God's Word sayt that God hatt put in the church, Apostles, Prophets, Evangelist Pastors and Teachers until we all come into the unity of the faith. We have not come into the Unity of the faith and we will not until Jesus Comes.
The "Cessationist Heresy" would say that we came into the unity of the faith when the scripture was canonized and we don't need Apostles or Prophets. If that were the case we would not need Pastor, Evangelist or Teachers either.

Please give me the requirements for the offices of apostle and prophet, along with the Scripture references.

I do not disagree that the Bible says that God gave some as apostles and prophets, but if we are to fill these offices, we must needs know what the qualifications of apostle and prophet are.

    Thank you.

t.I cannot buy the "CESSATIONIST HERESY"

I like the example of Annanias and Saphira. The Apostle spoke and because of the lies they died. Haven't seen that in any window washer churches. In fact haven't seen ol' Benny doing this at all in his "mighty miracle revivals". If the gifts of healing through the apostles are still around lets see him grow his hair back on his bald side so he doesn't have to be a hippie on one side and fake it for the tele folks. I had a friend who went to the "coffee shop" at his church and at 9:15 on Sunday morning had the "big one" right there where all the "Apostles" were gathered. Must of been 12 of them. Guess what?!!!! They called the ambulance and he arrived at the hospital DOA. Just don't understand it. When he needed an "apostle", suddenly there were none around.
One more question. Place: Oklahoma City. Circumstance: Bomb blast, people dieing in the streets. Arms and legs amputated by explosion and blunt force. Children dead and dieing. Where were all the signs and wonders people? We're talking about Ok. City folks. More "Full Gospel" there than almost any where else in America. Suddenly, no miracle help rendered. This spells HOGWASH [IMG]

Thanks -----Bart "The dueling society was a polite society"

    Sir,
Are you saved? Mocking and derailing others is not from the fruit of the Spirit is it?

If people have the gift to lay hands on someone and heal them of all infirmities then why don't they visit the hospitals? Why must they only be able to heal in lavish environments where they collect offerings and fees for their "gifts?" So much for the modern day apostles?

The early church offices were modeled after the officers in the synagogues. Apostles and Prophets were simply officers in the congregation. The leaders of the synagogue consisted of 'ten righteous men'. The synagogue was ruled by the 'Hakhamim' or bench of three (Bet Din). Two of the officers under the rulers were the Sheliach Bet Din and Sheliach Tzibbur. These were the Apostles.

The Sheliach Tzibbur was the 'Angel of the Assembly' or 'Angel of the Church'. They were the 'Masters of Prayer' and Chantors. They led the congregation in prayer and appointed members to read from the Torah scrolls during the service and made sure they read it correctly (Luke 4:14-21). These 'Angels of the Church' were the recipients of the Seven Letters to the Seven Churches in The Revelation.

The Sheliach Bet Din (Angel of the Court) was the messenger or emissary of the synagogue. He also administered judicial decisons, supervised circumcisions and conversions and layed on hands. They made sure that everything done in the congregation remained 'kosher' according to Jewish law. These two offices were also called 'overseers' or Bishops.

Another office was the 'Darshan'. He was the expounder of the Torah, preacher and prophet. This was probably the role Jesus played in a synagogue (John 4:19).

Other offices were Masoret (Master of Tradition, Evangelist and Teacher), Parnassim (Three Pastors or Deacons) and Moreh (Translator of Torah). The Pastor and Deacon of the synagogue were primarily administrators and served the widows and orphans. In some congregations, one of these three might have been a woman.
