Are plastic owls that scare away birds considered evil. One of my deacons says they allow satan the legal right to enter our church. That sounds like a charismatic teaching.

Ask your deacon if he has scripture to support his claim.

If he can't come up with convincing scripture, then there's absolutely no reason to start your list of material things we ought to consider evil with OWLS.

I remember this teaching from the '70s and '80s, when some believers thought there was a devil under every dust bunny. Ludicrous. I was told to get rid of my little ceramic owl collection I had then, my two pet lizards, my pet frog, and even to burn any of my children's books with nature photos of amphibians or owls in them. Our God created owls and amphibians.

I wonder how many of those who teach this are going to boycot their Easter hams because our Lord once cast the devils into a herd of swine?

    Is Bobby for real?

He's stirred up a bunch of Baptists over a really silly question. He may be sincere, but it smells like a troll to me.

    I may be mistaken.

That's right, we Funnymentals have come up with some really stupid stuff ourselves.

Example 1. Hair that touches the ear or back collar means that you are a druggie or drug dealer.

    2. Women who wear red dresses are harlots and if they come to church like that they must be cast out, physically.

I think all groups have come up with some really off the wall stuff.

Had an uncle-by-marriage who quit attending his church because they had replaced the old brown carpet with a burgundy one, and red was evil! But he had no qualms about driving without a license or insurance, as he had for years. He said he could do that because the Lord was his insurance, and he didn't need to have a license or a worldly entity to insure him.

    Hi rsr,

I know brobobby personally and he is a friend of mine. [IMG] There are people that shockingly believe this superstitition and pastors have to deal with such nonsense. Seems like they spend too much time looking for the devil and not enough time looking for the Lord. [IMG]

"The deacon in my church uses the 34th chapter of Isaiah."
Why, Bobby? Does he also think that ravens, hedgehogs, and pelicans are evil?

I thought there was no other wierdness to hear.

If you are sincere Bobby, the simple answer is - no.

OK. No offense meant to brobobby. I just couldn't imagine someone using scripture to justify the claim.

The folklore of the southeastern Native Americans also considers the owl (or an owl-like spirit) to be a portent of misfortune.

I've been to the latter site before. I thought this was enlightening:

"Know this - EVERYONE has demons, ESPECIALLY CHRISTIANS. There is no Scripture that says this. It is just a matter of FACT.
There is no Scripture that says you do NOT have demons. Jesus said the demons are living INSIDE of you, not OUTSIDE, and the demons call your body their 'house.'"

I know of two Bobby Whites...one who was my pastor before we left the ABA in the 80s & the other was at Rowland Road Missionary Bapt.Church as a teen. I take it you're the latter.

I am surprised there is a deacon in Northeast LA who would even consider the owl or it's meaning. Perhaps it's not that he's "superstitious", so much as he knows God says to learn NOT the way of the heathen & he's just trying to head things off...maybe he's thinking of the pagan owl, 'Molech'...
    http://pages.prodigy.net/markrm/satanicland.htm

Here's an excerpt from the website:
"Below, we see the same pagan owl seen on the U.S. dollar bill. It is tucked away in the corner. When magnified, the owl is clearly visible and did not come from the minds of conspiracy theorists. Now this is interesting. Back when I was a child in grade school, kids would come to school and show everyone else this little 'dot' on the one dollar bill. For years, the little rumor has been, that it is a spider. It indeed looks like a spider, after all, around the dollar bill appears to be spider webbing. But upon closer look, it is not a spider after all. It is an owl. Is it Molech? Yes. The below picture is very interesting, and exists on all current one dollar bills in the USA. Tell you what, save the picture. Right click and save it to your hard drive. Open an art program like MGI or Photoshop or something similar, and convert the photo to a negative. Then look closer. It is indeed, an owl. A white owl, at that. Harry Potter, has a pet snowy white owl, you can read more about that however, under the section called HARRY POTTER IS EVIL."

If they are, then they are only evil to other birds.
Sounds like the deacon has been watching too much TV.

But hey, one of the youth in my church owns a snake (a ball python) and was told at a previous church that serpents were evil and that christians who had them as pets were inviting Satan into their homes. Needless to say, this girl's family didn't stay at that church very long.

There is not one physical object that has any sort of "special" power to let God or Satan into our homes. That's typically cuperstition leftover from medieval christian folklore, when people were in the habit of wearing jewelry as tallismans to protect them from evil.

I can put this to rest, I went to an owl and asked him if he was a tool of the devil. Turns out he doesn't even know the prince of darkness. (Every time I asked, do you know the devil he only said, WHO??? WHO???) lol

seriously, God created the Owl, Satan creates NOTHING but trouble and turmoil. Only God has creation power and only God made owls, thus said owls are not incarnate evil or are the harbringers of death, they are merely night predators keeping rats and mice to a minimum (and occasional chickens).
