I joined the BB in 2001 and in all that time I've had conversations on line with many brethren with different views... I don't recall if there has ever been a polling of the BB in asking this question... Where does your Eternal Salvation lie in God alone or a partnership?

Same for me. John Piper was probably the most influential person on me to “make the switch.”

    Yes.

Actually, I believe God alone saves. I also believe one must repent and believe. How that works out I leave to you guys. :Thumbsup

Honestly studying God's word without a biased lens.
I couldn't escape God's choosing found in the Bible.

Romans 9:15 For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.

16 So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.

A view consistent with Paul’s narrative on Jewish evangelism, “the man who wills or the man who runs” would reflect the false assurance of salvation through works and bloodlines, that is, the perception of the unbelieving Jews who thought they were essentially born saved as children of Abraham and justified by their performance under the Law, which contrasts with the Gentile believers who successfully attained God’s righteousness simply by faith, summarized at Romans 9:30-32.

Righteousness is never earned by fallen creatures, no matter how hard they try, no matter how much willing and running they do. God’s mercy is for those who stop and surrender, turning themselves toward God, much like the “prodigal son” who humbly returned home, and received grace and mercy from this father, even though he didn’t deserve it.

I would not call myself either a Monergist or Synergist. Those are just pejorative terms that are used to put down the view of the other person. Neither reflects what we actually see in the bible.

Only God saves but He only saves those that have trusted in His risen Son and since faith is not a work it in no way can be considered as man working with God for his salvation. This truth can be clearly seen here: “In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation—having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise,” Eph 1:13

I think the wording on the old poll might be making the difference here.

Lol, you should browse through all 17 pages of the thread, it was an eye opener for me at the time. No matter how I worded it, getting 'free-willers' to admit to being a 'Synergist' was like trying to nail jello to the wall.

I definitely will... I guess it being 14 years ago I probably was not even in the poll but I've found what I believe is the best definition of Monergistic... You contribute nothing to your Salvation but SIN that made it necessary... Jonathan Edwards... Brother Glen:)

Your [lame] view, twisting Romans 9 to apply only to Jews, is consistent with those who reject God's sovereign grace, re. 24th verse:

2 3 and that he might make known the riches of his glory upon vessels of mercy, which he afore prepared unto glory,
24 even us, whom he also called, not from the Jews only, but also from the Gentiles? Ro 9
