    Since Joe has me and SFIC on ignore, he might want to check to see if his nose is growing also.

    BTW, the person Ed Sutton mentioned was "standingfirminChrist"---before any names were named. How did he know and nobody else did? I find that hard to believe.

    I am not blind as to what is going on here, neither did I falsely accuse Dale-c. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out this agenda. Am I stepping on somebody's toes?

    Proverbs 27:17*Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.

    James 1:19-20 My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, for man's anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desire

    My answer to those three questions would be the same:

    No, definitely not.

    However, to save being misunderstood, let me say that Christians should seek (with God's help) to understand more and more of His Word.

    To answer the OP,

    No I don't have all doctrine figured out... but I do think I am right on the parts I do have figured out....

    If I thought I was wrong I would change my beliefs.... duh! lol

    I too have changed some beliefs over the yrs, especially after I learned that some of the Independent Fundamental Legalistic Dysfunctional churches I grew up in were wrong on a lot of the secondary doctrines like KJVO, no pants on women, etc... (NOT calling all IFBs dysfunctional of course just some I have had the non privelege to be a part of)

    And I am sure I will grow more in knowledge as I get older... at least I hope so... and as I do, some more of my beliefs will be challenged.

    Thank you Blackbird;

    1 Corinthians 3:9-14
    9For we are labourers together with God: ye are God’s husbandry, ye are God’s building.
    10According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon.
    11For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
    12Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble;
    13Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is.
    14If any man’s work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward.

    We had better know we are building on Christ's foundation has the things that apply to sound Doctrine.
    If all those that think that they cannot be sure that they are you had better get your noses into the Book and stay there until you come away with clear, assuring, doctrine. You do not want to build the thing that will so easily be burnt away. If Paul could do it, we can do it.

    Thank you TB;

    These two posts sum up my feelings on this thread. Except that on Eschatology I have always been Post trib/pre wrath yet open to more light.

    Maybe the reason we have hundreds if not thousands of denominations and sects since Acts is because everyone thinks they are right. My guess is no one is completely right. Some approach it more than others.

    It seems to me we should recognize that we belong to Christ, and only He can answer yes to this thread. Anything we are or believe in our flawed state is due to faith in Him. On nonessential issues, the idea of thinking you are right and the next person is wrong is a sign of your fallen nature.

    Since we are all being transformed into the image of Jesus, I can see absolutely no excuse for the lack of respect of other views on this subject for our fellow brothers and sisters, as we all go towards that goal. Of course, Bible study and attendance at Sunday School and church gives one good, solid fundamentals on the essentials. That is not we are talking about with the back and forth issues on this board. They usually do not amount to a hill of beans.

    Calling someone a "liar" (or trying to be clever and saying their nose is growing) is not acceptable conduct . . especially on a thread asking a simple premise of being correct in all areas of doctrine.

    BTW, if I believed I was holding a WRONG doctrine and still hold it, that would make me schitzophrenic and a mental case.

    Any stable Christian will believe that his interpretation is correct . . . until proven false or dissuaded to another view. I'm not going to go around saying, "I believe XYZ and I know it's not true, but I'm just ornery." :tonofbricks:

    Depends on what you mean by "right".

    I'm not dumb enough to believe that I have every "i" dotted and every "t" crossed or that I have a perfect understanding of every doctrine, but I do believe that I'm Biblically sound in my doctrine.

    I don't believe that it's possible for man to have perfect doctrine in this life, but we are called to have Biblically sound doctrine and I believe that, by the guidance of God's word and the Holy Spirit leading us into truth, that's an easily attainable goal.

    Maybe, but you'd be in good company. I talk to people every day who will admit to me that what they believe is probably not true, but that they're going to continue to proclaim it as truth.

    I shared the Gospel one day with a guy who says that he knows that Hell is real, but that he is going to choose to believe that there is no Hell because he doesn't like the moral consequences of there being a Hell.

    I have not really ever met someone who would admit they were wrong without changing. I have however met many people who have an opinion and then look for facts to back it up.

    The fact is that they WANT to believe a doctrine and will find ways to back that belief up.

    I think that is a natural tendency.

    Tim, as far as peripheral issues like women wearing pants and KJVO etc, I too grew up around many of those types (was one myself once) and I would say some are, as you said "disfunctional" while others are not.

    I would say that the level of functionality with those people tends to be thhe degree to which they see those issues as "fundamentals" rather than non-essentials.

    I have many friends who believe women should not wear pants or that alcohol is wrong or that the kJV is all you should use who see those as being non essentials to the Christian faith.

    I have fellowship with those people since they do not make it a point of fellowship, neither do I..

    When we realize that there are certainly non essential issues that we are probably wrong about (even though we don't realize it) and we agree on essential doctrines, then we are just fine.

    BTW, i am most assuredly wrong about some doctrine somewhere. I am sure as I continue to study, I will find what that is.

    These examples are not doctrines - they are conclusions. Nothing more.

    They are teachings which are emphasized to an inordinate degree , especially KJV-Onlyism .

    Depends on who you talk to.
    When they are conclusions, as they are with most of the people in my chuch that hold to them (some do and some don't) then I don't have a problem.

    When they become defining doctrines, then it is a problem.
    So in a way I do agree with you that conclusions is all they SHOULD be, regardless of which side you take,

    When it becomes a doctrine, no matter which way take on it, you have problems.

    That would be my answer... although my stability is open to question.

    I had a friend who said that although he was convinced that he was holding correct doctrines, he was probably wrong on 25%.... but that he just didn't know which 25% yet.:laugh:

    That might be me. I would like to think that I am right more often than that but if God were to come down and expose all of our faults in our doctrine we would probably all be surprised.

    Whatever is taught in a church from the Bible is a doctrine...

    That is the basic definition of doctrine... teaching

    When a preacher stood up in the pulpit and taught that the only acceptable Bible was the KJV, it was a doctrine.

    Of course I believe I am right, just ask me!

    FTR I did not know who Dale was talking about until the name dropping began. I tend to change threads if it gets a little to much like a soap opera around here.
