This question is for pastors -
But I would like to hear from all.

    What would you have done:
I was officiating a graveside committal today- and it started to rain - a 2 or 3 folks put up umbrellas. I was more than halfway done. I then somewhat expedited the remainder. I did want to give a good presentation of the Gospel. I did not know the spiritual condition of anyone, except the couple who asked me to to do the service. There were about 20 people there. I was concerned with the rain, many would resent my Gospel presentation.

    Thoughts?

I have performed quite a few funerals over the years, some with rain, but I have never performed one where there was not a cover over the gravesite. That may be a Southern thing.

In any case, the Spirit is the one who uses what has been said — even if you did not say everything you intended to say. Moreover, God sent/allowed the rain, so He was not taken by surprise.

You were both loving your neighbor AND using wisdom in the moment. The work of God is not overcome by a rain shower or you not getting to say everything you would normally say.

Or it could be the funeral home charges extra for the covering....
Hmm - I may just ask the funeral home about that.

And thank you for your kind words

I’m assuming it was in NY State….and if so, why no covering? In PA they will take the service inside if it’s winter or rainy.
