You haven't been watching the unemployment number, have you? We are at all time highs. It may not be permanent but it will be a long time for all but the lucky few.

Good point Jim, jobs are scarce around here. Especially jobs making what they make. And before you say it Dragoon, if they make too much lower than they do now, you can add their houses to the foreclosure list and their credit cards to the bad debt list. Trickle down problems.

We won't have this problem if we protect their jobs...

These companies have all been mismanaged. Banks, mortgage companies, car makers etc. Now the tax payers are being forced to cover that up. The bailout funds are not being accounted for. No one knows where it is going.

All that money should be used to drill, build refineries, build nuke plants, windmill farms, solar farms etc. And let those idiots be responsible for their messes. To include the Unions and their excessive benefits.

The jobs are addressed, the energy needs are addressed, and the lunacy with unions and dumb home loans comes to an end.

Why do I have to protect their jobs?

    They don't work for me...

Where did people get the idea that the Government must protect their jobs...

    OH, that's right.. that's a socialist idea.

I think the plan is to do this also. Unfortunately, all these programs would only employ a small part of the currently unemployed. We really don't need more on the list but if the plan to recover is to layoff the workers then I agree, just let them go belly up.

We've given AIG $152B and we can't provide $35B to stave off bankruptcy of GM, Ford, and Chrysler? I'd like to know where that AIG money went. The job loss after bankruptcy argument is that no one will want to buy a car from a bankrupt auto company. I wouldn't.

    I would too.

Bankruptcy or bailout. Why trust the company after either one.

The auto companies are not asking for a bailout.

    They are asking for loans.

So you think Government shouldn't worry about unemployment?

What happen to Christians wanting to combat things like Hunger, poverty, homelessness etc...?

If it's socialist for me want to assist my fellowman with the means to feed his family and put a roof over their heads then I guess you get me real good. I have no shame for my desire to help those in need. Not like you were going to get your tax money back anyway, might as well advocate something good done with it.

Me... We've lost over a million jobs this year alone. It would be a long time and much red tape before those industries would employ a million folks. And this doesn't include the folks who lost jobs in the previous years or the 2.5 million predicted to be jobless if we let the auto industry fail.

It is socialist to do it through the inefficient government. And poor stewardship.

It will be poverty if they loose their jobs.

I don't feel they should make $58/hr but I also don't want to see anyone loose their job.

This seem to be a prevalent attitude of people who live off the labor of others.

No we are not. We are nowhere in the area code of all time highs.

    Check your stats.

OK...so I'm supposed to help bail out a company that can't make it on it's own...a company that charges $2,000 more in labor cost to make (ostensibly) the same product...a company that owns over half of Consumer Reports' "worst cars of 2008"...(GM)

Um...I'm sure there's logic here, I'm just not following it...
