I'm surprised that a thread hasn't been started, so I'll start one where we can all make our meaningless predictions for the MLB season. I say meaningless, because come October, I doubt that any of us are going to bother looking up how good, or, in my case, not so good, we were with our predictions. :)

    NL Division and Wildcard
NL East - Mets - Not enough pitching to win in October, but should have enough offense to get there in the first place.

NL Central - Cubs - Sweet Lou, 2007 Manager of the Year, will get tons and tons of credit for turning the Cubs around. I'm not a sportswriter and I can write the headlines for this season.

NL West - Dodgers - One of the more balanced teams of 2007, I think.

Wild Card - Phillies - They'll find a way to lose the division but make the playoffs.

    AL Division and Wildcard
AL East - Red Sox - Things to count on: Dice-K is unhittable the first time that teams see him. JD Drew gets injured. Josh Beckett still can't find the strike zone.

AL Central - Indians - Sowers has a fantastic year. At least, I hope he does for my fantasy teams' sake. :)

AL West - Angels - Vlad the Impaler, 2007 AL MVP.

Wild Card - Tigers - Pitching slips a bit, but the Yanks, Twinkies and ChiSox have too many holes to beat the Kitties for the Wildcard.

    NL Playoffs
    Cubs over Phillies
    Dodgers over Mets

    Cubs over Dodgers

    AL Playoffs
    Red Sox over Tigers
    Indians over Angels

    Red Sox over Angels

    World Series
    Red Sox over Cubs

    Go ahead and laugh.

I made some predictions in the thread below titled "2007 Major League Baseball Preview". My predicitions:

    1. Detroit Tigers will win it all.

    2. The Metrodome will be smote with fire from heaven.

Tom, you forgot to add that the Reds win because of all the problems in the Metrodome :)

That would be merely stating the obvious, wouldn't it? After all, the only reason the Twins would be in the playoffs is because of the Metrodome. The only reason the Twins get to the WS is the Metrodome. The only reason we go to 7 games is because of the Metrodome. And remember:

The only reason we may have Global Warming is the Metrodome.
The only reason we have the Alternative Minimum Tax is the Metrodome.
The only reason we have Open Theism is the Metrodome.
The only explanation for evolution's foothold in the public school system is the Metrodome.

I don't care too much about any division except the N.L. East. I don't think the Phillies are as good as I thought depsite Jimmy Rollins claiming that they are the team to beat in the N.L. East. Rollins is full of crap. The Mets are THE team to beat. I think the Phillies are going to fall off, the Braves are going to win the Wild Card at very least. But it's way to early to tell. Heck, the Royals might even win it all this year...ok, back to reality, I don't know. After about 30 games, we'll get an idea, no need to be making wild guesses based on one game.

Speaking of that, the Braves are on pace to be 162-0 this year.

    Amazin'!

Did anyone else see the Mets pummel the Phillies, and Jommy Rollins making an error that mad a bad inning so much worse?

The fans were chanting "JIM-MY ROL-LINS".

Swept by the Braves, destroyed by the Mets, they're in the gutter of the NL East with the Nationals.

The teams to beat indeed, everyone beats them. Better luck next year, Jimmy.

As I type this, A-Rod has a .981 slugging %. I hate him, I hate him, I hate him, but I'm not crazy enough to count the dreaded Yankees out, just yet.

    Hate the Yankees. Like A-Rod.

World Series -- Yankees versus Braves & the Braves will probably choke (again).

It's only April. The only teams we can count out are the Devils Rays and the Royals. :wavey:

We can't count the Cubs out either. We'll take care of that during the annual June Swoon.

How bout them Braves...4-2 so far against the Mets.

Mets is short for My Entire Team Stinks.

I really liked how the Mets did thier usual 6th inning comeback, then the Braves came back and tied the game, then took a 3 run lead in the 8th. Last year, the bullpen would have given it away but we have Wickmania now!

Mets fans are so hard on the Braves. You usually hear stuff like "die Braves, die" or "our offense is so much better" or "thier bullpen isn't really any better" and the all-around concept of "we're just better, whenever we lose a game, we beat ourselves, because there is no way a team as good as ours can be beaten by any other team ever".

Well, they got beat today, and I'm really glad. I don't have any problem with saying we (the Braves) got beat by the Yankees all those years or the Astros a couple of times, or any other team for that matter. Their problem is this, before last year, the Mets had a lot of hard years and they lost a lot of games, and spent many a year about 15 or 20 games back out of the division lead. This "loser" complex has developed and last year, finally they aren't losers anymore. In fact they came within one game of getting to the Series, which will haunt many of them for the rest of thier lives, if they don't make it that far this year. Well, it's a hard feeling to kick, because the way they bemoan a few games in April, you'd think they hadn't won any games this year.

The simple fact is, the Braves weren't so hot last year, they were pretty bad, I'll admit that. The Mets go on a tear, combined with the fact the Braves had no bullpen, they finally win the division. So now these Mets fans so used to being out of the race early and they're in a position they hadn't been in for 14 years. So last year, they run away with the NL East title, and get beaten in NLCS Game 7 AT HOME by the weakest (as far as wins) team in the playoffs. Offseason comes along.

The Braves improve the bullpen, keep pretty much the same offense (minus LaRoche), and put themselves in a position to contend this year. Now, in Mets fan fantasy land, there's no reason why the Mets shouldn't win again, and I do give them that much. The Mets have a great offense, decent enough pitching, and near the upper end of the middle of the league in defense. But, I say, the Braves got better. They ran all over us last year, but this is a new one. Instead of running over a team with no bullpen, now they have to contend with the number 2 offense in NL (#1 in homers so far), with a good bullpen not prone to blowing games (as long as Yates keeps improving, McBride stays in the minors, and the Vulture pitches with a score of +/- 8). If anything, this is the year they HAVE to prove that last year wasn't a fluke. Last year, it was easy, this year, it's a race. And with the way the Braves have played them so far, it's not gonna be so easy.

The Braves have made thier statement, the line has been drawn.

The burden of proof, the bragging rights, the pressure, is all on the Mets.

    Bring it on! GO BRAVES!

    Soli Deo Gloria,
    DUstin

For me, it's the Yanks/Sox series'. Those two teams have been the best show in baseball, the two A.L. Champ series certainly were better than most world series'....

I do love baseball, & will watch just about any game, but the rivalry between N.Y. & Boston has produced some great baseball moments.
