Well, with Motorcycles comes gasoline...and that's explosive.

This is a Fox news story, so it has to be sensationalized a bit. Try to imagine "Explosive" being said in an echoing voice with booming sound effects and some cool graphics...yup, its news, fair and balanced!

Sorry, just found an item listed on board that is explosive. The article says of one of the containers, "(it) contains small car parts, which is airbag release bottles, which are very small gas bottles. They're considered dangerous goods but for us they're low-risk."

If in close proximity I guess it could take off a finger nail... :)

    Here is the BBC article:

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/devon/6283965.stm

Sometimes, though, overseas news desks release more details which are withheld here for political reasons... and vice-versa.

So there may well be truly explosive elements on board.

So is it running across the bottom of Fox's screen with a big glaring banner at the top ?

FOX EXCLUSIVE: DEVON DISASTER!!!! THOUSANDS THREATENED BY POTENTIAL EXPLOSIVE DISASTER OFF ENGLISH COAST! Terror Connections Not Yet Ruled out!

They were reporting that there were 'hazardous materials' that could kill on board and maybe in the lost containers, so police were telling locals not to open the containers.

That report sounded like chem bio hazmat might be in the containers . . . the only normally container transported hazmat that fits that description would be explosives.

Then foxnews said there were 1700 pounds of explosives in one container (that had not gone into the ocean, yet).

That may have been 1700 tons of explosives and hazardous material - that is what CNN just reported.

    ;)

Why? Because instead of gasoline, it was an airbag canister? Fox News (as does CNN) sensationalizes just about everything...that was my point, no more, no less.

Personally I am about tired of Fox News. I am spending more time on MSNBC and CNN.

Just wanted to say I was not trying to throw eggs... am I taking that phrase too far? :)

Just had not heard those details.

Anyway, here in England they would be more concerned about a few birds getting oiled up than mere humans getting killed.

Nah, he's suggesting that I had "egg on my face" because the ship was shown to have explosives. Of course, all I said was that the gasoline for the motorcycles might be the explosives in question. Then I made light of Fox News...which many hold dear.

So he offered me a towel, which I did not need, but was grateful to recieve. After all, the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy says that one should never be without their towel.

Locals have turned up to cash in on the bonanza, one driving away a £6000 BMW motorbike, others taking stuff to sell on on Ebay.

I know that's what your point is. You were offered the towel for being so wrong. I guess you don't see the humor in it.

Fox is no better nor worse at sensationalizing the "news" than other major networks. Only those nursing an agenda believe so. They are all lousy.

It's not funny because he was not wrong.

Fox is capable of covering the news in a dispassionate manner, but they excell at sensationalizing.

    Eh, sez you.

    As do all of them.

But some are seemingly incapable of covering the news "in a dispassionate manner" especially concerning matters of politics and policy. CBS, CNN, and MSNBC come immediately to mind.

Fox may over react to some stories, but what I find most irritating is when CNN and others completely ignore a story.

They all have their bias, and I think we're all pretty clear with whose bias we agree. :)
