Bones of Jesus Found

    Cameron and Jacobovici's last collaboration was on the History Channel last year and purported not only to prove the details of Exodus but also put ancient Hebrews in Greece, where they made jewelry showing the true form of the Ark of the Covenant. (The story required some rewriting of the accepted chronology of the Exodus and Egyptian history, but, oh well, it was a nice yarn.)

    It seems that only enough has been released about the actual episode to ensure that there will be plenty of free publicity. It's intriguing that a statistician is supposed to provide the "evidence" because of the various names involved. The evidence, Jacobovici says in a clip I saw, is based on 3,000 ossuaries.

    Not bad, but it assumes that we know the prevalence of names of the period with some accuracy. We know that Joshua and Joseph and Miriam were common names - just as they're common among Jews now. What we don't know is the distribution among the general population over the course of a century - in which the average life expectancy was perhaps 30-40 years.

    It also occurs to me that anyone opposed to Christianity in first-century Palestine would have left some record to corraborate the story - but didn't.

    Isn't it strange that those who claim that Jesus married Mary Magdalene, including Muslims, cannot explain the sudden disappearance of Jesus from this worldly scene right after his crucifixion? You would think that if he was somehow substuted for someone else who was crucified in his place, (as also Muslims claim) for this is what this man with his box of bones is implying and that he supposedly went into hiding after being smuggled out of Jerusalem by by his disciples, that he would have had the common sense to change his name as well? It is also strange that all these names are written in Greek, yet all Messianic Jews that I know call him Yeshua. Another question. Why a box of bones when this was not the common Jewish burial custom?

    Good questions. For years there has been the claim to be the tomb of Jesus located in Kashmir, also, so this is not the first time, nor will it probably be the last, sadly.
