    'BOYLOVERS' BOOK ANGER

A book being sold on a popular website claims paedophiles are "loving human beings".

Child protection group NSPCC has slammed the publication, for sale on Amazon.com, which also argues that child abusers are not "monsters".

Paedophiles have posted reviews of the book - Understanding Loved Boys and Boylovers - on the website in praise of it.

One man said: "As a boylover, I found this book extremely helpful."

Publishers SafeHaven Foundation Press claim the book, by David L Riegel, is aimed at researchers and educators.

But Liz Atkins, NSPCC head of policy, stormed: "Sexual relationships between an adult and children must never be viewed positively.

"We know that sex offenders often look to justify their behaviour and any book that seeks to minimise the distressing and long term impact on children is unacceptable."

In the 108-page book, which has sold 150,000 copies, Mr Riegel describes paedophiles as "sincere, concerned, loving human beings" who have probably been born with "a sexual orientation neither understood nor accepted by most others".

Amazon said the book was not a child molester's "how-to", adding it had no role in censoring what it sold.

There was a petition drive against this book when it first came out. Amazon refused to remove it. You ought to see some of the other books they sell!

  Leads me to think of how money is the root of all evil. Rather than miss out on a few bucks from some sick individuals they (Amazon) would rather endorse this behavior. [IMG]

Well...as long as it isn't a "how-to" book then I guess it is OK. Try not paying for a book and see if they still claim they don't have a role. [IMG]

This came out quite a while ago. I did a bit of research on it and what you can find is appalling. It's just going to be though, eventually it will be normalized just like homosexuality is.
There's already message boards online for "boylovers" to talk and discuss issues concerning how people see them and what they can do to help people understand that what they like is not wrong, it's just an alternative. There's civilized discussions and advice, such as one man who asked about boundaries since he wanted his ten year old grandson. He was kindly advised that it wasn't advisable to go within the family.
And of course there will be the people who will say "get over it and quit trying to make the world live up to YOUR Christian expectations".
I seriously don't doubt that given enough years pedophilia will become just another alternative lifestyle and we will have rules saying we cannot discriminate against them in the workplace and all the other wonderful rules they have in place for controlling how we try to deal with wickedness.

this was a story three years ago.

This has been resurrected by the Sun newspaper in the UK (***link removed by SheEagle*** )

Anyhow - I commend Amazon for their stand - it is not for the government to determine what people should or should not be reading

If you think the book makes you sick; try reading some of the reviews posted by self-admitted pedophiles!

Sue, I don't think I want to. I agree with Gina, it is a matter of time before people decide it is fine, just like the homosexual lifestyle. I have a friend who isn't a Christian yet. She is a few years older tham me. I don't see her often but I talked with her the other day and she is literally shocked at how the world has changed, for the worse.

Because the paper, in it's current issue, had an unacceptable topic, to be used on the Baptist Board. Please refrain from linking to such a paper in the future. Thank you. [IMG]

I very much doubt that - I can't think of a single opinion poll that would confirm that people are becoming more liberal when thinking about this topic.

Interestingly enough in Iowa and Alabama the age of consent is 14 - does this not concern anyone?

there is a whole list of ages of consent across the world here - *edited out link to pro-homosexuality site*

    makes for interesting reading

Under UK law (and I suspect US law too)Amazon can and should be prosecuted as aiding and abetting, counselling and procuring a criminal offence, namely the commission of sexual acts with minors.

If the book/article encourages paedophiliac activity then it contravenes the Sexual Offences Act 1956 (as subsequently amended)as counselling a sexual offence, as does its publisher. Further and in the alternative, arguably, anyone such as Amazon who publishes such material aids and abets this counselling.

Matt, I tried doing a search so I could give you some concrete information but couldn't find what I was looking for.

I signed a petition about this book quite a while back through One Million Moms I believe but it could have been Concerned Women for America or a lot of other activist sites. The information that came with the petition said that it is NOT against the law to publish or sell these books in the U.S.

This page has a lot of info about Amazon and links to NAMBL off their site.

InHim, I have in mind as the principal offence(s), the following:-

Buggery, as defined by the Sexual Offences Act 1956 ss12&16, as amended by the Sexual Offences Act 1967 ss 1, 4, 7 & 8

Gross indecency, as defined by the SOA 1956 s13

Indecent assault, as defined by the SOA 1956 s15 and the Indecency with Children Act 1960

Indecency with children, as defined by the Indecency with Children Act 1960 s1

Indecent photographs of children, as efined by the Protection of Children Act 1978 s1 and the Criminal Justice Act 1988 s160

All of the above principals can be aided and abetted, counselled or procured by publication, arguably.

In addition, we have the publishing laws which could apply directly and principally to Amazon:-

Outraging public decency - Obscene Publications Act 1959, s2(4), which amends the common law offence; see the cases of Whitehouse-v-Lemon [1979] AC 617 (the Mary Whitehouse 'Gay Times' case) and R-v-Gibson [1990] 2 QB 619.

Corrupting public morals, under common law (see Shaw-v-DPP [1962] AC 220)

    Publishing an obscene article for gain - Obscene Publications Act 1959 s2. See also R-v-Holloway (1982) 4 Cr App R (S) 128

Publishing an article harmful to children - Children and Young Persons (Harmful Publications) Act 1955 s2

That'll do for the moment ;)

    Yours in Christ

    Matt

Matt - I think you are wrong here

In terms of the case law I have seen no book, play, film or other media have ever been prosecuted under any other statute other than the Obscene Publications Act 1959 or the OSA.

The act states that something is obscene if it is likely to 'deprave and corrupt' those viewing/reading etc it - there has not been a successful prosecution under this act for a few decades - I have in mind

    - the effective end of music censorship with the failed banning of NiggasforLife by NWA

    - The failed banning of Lady Chatterly and Last exit for Brooklin which effectively ended censorship of books in the UK

    - The new catagory of R18 which has legalised hard core porn in the UK

The only successfully removed book that I can think of in recent times is spyCatcher - that was due to the Offical Secrets Act

    - I spoke with the guys in my chambers and none of them can think of a single case where a producer of a form of media has been prosecuted for 'aiding and abetting' GBH or any such - could you please advise?
