Congressman Alan Grayson said " They want tax cuts for the rich because ..." Why don't you understand it is not about tax cuts. It will be a tax increase. The congressman also said "the fact that they stand to gain millions, millions of dollars each year..." Again that is incorrect. The US would not be giving money to Rush and company, just not taking as much. Big difference.

Mr. Grayson conveniently left out one minor point. How much did Rush and Glenn pay in taxes. Rush made 58 million, Glenn 33 million for a total of 91 million dollars. To be conservative, at 20% they paid a minimum of 11 Million dollars! Also, how may folks work for Glenn and Rush - Even those evil capitalist actually grow jobs.

Would someone like to challenge the amount of taxes I listed - research it. You will probably find out I am wrong - as I', sure it is much more!

So what if Rush will save 2 million in taxes this year. That another 2 mil for him to spend, which will help grow the economy.

The problem in Congress is not enough money coming in, its congress spending money on things we don't need to be spending on.

If Rush made 58 million last year, please explain exactly which consumer goods might have Rush failed to purchase last year because he couldn't afford them? A personal jet liner? Anything reasonable?

People who can't understand there is a vast quantitive, social, and psychological difference between some who make 58 million and someone who make ten buck an hour . . . I will be banned from the list if I finish this thought. I don't have any polite words to describe them

Yes, but, if that small business has to pay an additional 30K in taxes...

That's the equivalent of a couple $10/Hour jobs.

And, if taxes get too onerous they'll just send their income offshore and divest themselves of American Interests.

You and I can't send our money offshore.

    They can.

I'd rather keep as much of their money here.

And, don't forget even if they allow the Tax Hikes to kick in they won't be collecting until next year and that leaves plenty of time to move off shore themselves with their cash.

You folks that resent rich people are about as dull as a person can be.

Let me ask you folks who resent the rich a question.

Has a poor person ever given you a job?

I have held a few jobs through the years and every single business I ever worked for was owned by one of those evil greedy rich people. Oh man, how I despise them, they have been paying me wages for all these years so that I can take care of my family and have a good life. Oooh they are so evil.

We should be like Cuba where the government owns everything. Things are much fairer there, everybody is dirt poor. They don't have evil greedy rich people there. Well, they do, but they all work for the government.

Some rich people ARE greedy. They want more and more money all the time. So what do they do? They start businesses so they can sell products and make more money. Unfortunately, even rich people, as smart as they are, can't make everything themselves, so they hire folks like you and me to make these products so they can get rich. Oh, isn't it horrible?

Evil rich people like Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck make millions of dollars. They buy all sorts of stuff. Oh, isn't that evil? Now folks like you and I have to make all the products these greedy rich people buy. Some guy has to make a yacht, another guy has to make a fancy sports car, or a fancy $10,000 watch. Thousands of people are employed making these luxury items for those greedy rich people. Isn't it terrible?

You just keep taxing rich people and taking their money so they can't invest and create jobs. Don't worry, if you do that you won't have any rich people, we will all be poor like Cuba or Haiti. Wouldn't that be great!

Wealth envy is as difficult to get over as greed. It's not our money - it's their money. So long as it was legally acquired is not our place to take more of it - even by force of law - just because they have more of it. The best thing we can hope for is that they spend it and thereby fuel the economy. Having the government take it may make some feel better - if they've got wealth envy - but it only gives the bureaucrats more to spend on useless scams that end up costing us all a lot more in the long run.

    One important, pertinent note:

Alan Grayson is a certifiable nutjob. Anything--anything he says--is suspect.

Okay, so Rush keeps that 2 million dollars that wont be taxed. He puts into a bank - to draw interest... than the bank has 2 million dollars to make loans on....

I like what Dragoon said (post # 6) "It's not our money - it's their money. So long as it was legally acquired is not our place to take more of it - even by force of law - just because they have more of it."

    Good point, Salty.

Just because someone has or makes more than other people does not change the fact that the wealth is theirs. I know I would be mad as all get out if the government wanted to single me out for additional taxes above and beyond everyone else, whether I was rich or not.

The whole "redistributing the wealth" garbage is just that... garbage. Trying to impose extra taxes on people just because they make more is garbage, too. Talk about organized discrimination... I wish I were one of the wealthy, but I'm not. Even so I do not want to "punish" them above what we all are having to pay already.

I, for one, have enjoyed the tax cuts Bush brought about. We have seen that the country did just fine without the extra lint in our pockets. If they (the dipsticks in DC) would stop trying to spend their way into oblivion then what we have would be more than enough. It is time we took the checkbook away from them... they are WAY overdrawn already.

One of these days, the bromide that the tax cuts under EGTRRA are for the rich will die since it's a pure fabrication of the left.

Oh wait...no it won't, because they won't let it.

Covetouness has always been a sin. There are a few forms of it - and the one that hits so many people draws them to hate all rich folks.

Then there is the slightly altered form which cause them to hate only rich Repubicans.

How often do we hear folks complain about how much money sports stars make?

Did you know that according to Baseball Almanac a ball player makes $400,000 a year - That comes out to $1,095.89 a DAY (okay with leap year it come out to only......................... $1,092.90 a day) and thats just the MINIMUM WAGE! The average salary is 3.3 million.

Lets see lets take 2.3 Mill from each ball player 25x 26 = 650* players x 2 = 1.5 billion dollars for the feds - and that still leave 1 mill for each player.

How many players will just quit???

    * 25 players per team x 25 teams

Now lets add in the NFL, NHL, NBA, ect
shoot, we could wipe out the national debt!

The entire system is a sham. This discussion would be mute if the government did away with tax breaks and install a flat tax rate across the board without deductions. It would also save millions in payroll within the IRS.

Including churches and non-profits - but no more than a 1% tax on all tranactions (not income tax)

Churches with side businesses should be taxed like any other money producing business, no exceptions to the rule

I don't know; when these people, with the massive power that comes with the money then do stuff like raise prices and cut quality (where we have to replace an item more often because it falls apart more quickly) then that is more we are spending, and if you're saying it is their money, then that just sounds like they are walking up and claiming more of our money as theirs. And that's where it all seems to be going (and yes, this would include sports and entertainers as well! And no, they're not spending it all back in this economy. The people travel and do business all over the world). But of course, we only blame the government, and the "rich-envyers" for trying to get "our" or "their" money.

Yet one could say the same thing with the government raising taxes, then. It's the government's money. They printed it even! (And that is kind of what Jesus said; who's inscription is on the coin?)

I guess this is why scripture tells us we brought nothing in this world. We think we have some absolute "ownership" of these eathly things, but we are under a fallen system, that on all levels (govt.; private) is looking out for number one, and the bottom line. they can at any moment find some way to take from us what we think is "ours". Eminent domain (which now ends up being used by private enterprises with the govt's help) should show us that.

Big difference between a company raising it's prices and the govenment raising taxes.

The difference being that I can choose to buy something and pay the higher price or not.

No such choice exists with taxes.

As to your statement that all the money belongs to the government because they printed it....

Send all of yours to the IRS if you really believe what you say.

I'm not saying I believe all the money belongs to the government, but that one can argue it does, simply because they have the power to take it.

Certain products we cannot choose, such as food, shelter and health, with a so-called "market" that determines price and what one company does, the others will pretty much follow, and the only alternative to save costs is to buy something practically no good.

When they do that and then it is claimed "well, it's 'their money'"; I see that as little different from what the government does. Either way, it's less for us; (oh, but we shouldn't complain).
