What is Larkinism and Hageeism ? Don't they both teach the same thing ? How do they differ ?
    Honest inquiry. No fight pickin'.

    5-pointer,
    </font>
    • 1. Total Depravity
      2. Unconditional Election
      3. Limited Atonement
      4. Irristible Grace
      5. Perseverance by Preservation</font>
    I am also pre-trib, pre-mil and dispensational.

Someone will have to tell me what is 'modern' dispensationalism; noting there is an historic dispensationalism.

Understand DD, where there is an elect there must have been a non-elect. Are you absolute predestinarian?

    Just wandering, hoping absolutly :D

I know some Sovereign Grace Baptists who are absoluters and some who are not; I am inclined toward it.

Dallas, as I am actually an eight-pointer:

    1. Total depravity
    2. Unconditional election
    3. Limited atonement
    4. Irresistable grace
    5. Perseverance of the saint

    6. (agreeing with Pete Richert) the heretics need to be burned
    7. (logically) if some are elect, some are damned
    8. that all that has ever happened is the best posible scenerio to bring glory to God

I joke about no. 6. I honest don't know about no. 7. I am a strict believer in no. 8.

    Watchman,

One thing that I would note to you concerning your exegesis of 1 Peter is that election based on the idea of simple foreknowledge falls apart in the context. Why? Because in 1:23, Christ is foreknown. In this context, foreknowledge is a foreordination, not a simple knowledge about facts before they happen. That text is actually one of the best examples of foreknowledge meaning "a love for and choosing of an individual before existence" See John Feinberg in No One Like Him for a full argument.

I am a 7 pointer believing in all 5 plus supralapsarianism (double-predestination; see Van Til for a good argument for this) and best of all worlds (a.k.a. God does all things for His glory).

I am not however dispensational, but I will say that I believe the Bruce Ware is right in saying that ever since George Ladd's New Testament Theology was published dispy's and covenant folks are a whole lot closer than they think at times. However, I simply do not believe nor do I believe it is right to believe in a pre-trib rapture. The early church did not seem to hold to this and neither do the people in China, Vietnam, and various Muslims countries who believe that they are truly experiencing the tribulation now.

    I am a 6-pointer
    </font>
    • God is sovereign and is God, and Bob isn't</font>
    • Bob is totally incapable of doing one right thing in the sight of God (although he is really kewl and some people like him)</font>
    • Bob stood condemned to hell, but was loved and selected by God to receive His grace - (out of all humanity - WOW!)</font>
    • Bob's sins were atoned for, 100%, paid for by the death of Jesus on the cross. Bob can never bear the penalty again.</font>
    • Bob was regenerated by the Spirit Who gave him repentance and faith to call on the Lord and be saved</font>
    • Bob's salvation (see 1-5) is 100% of God and not Bob and so his eternal destiny is, like everything else, up to God</font>

Larkin was a dispensationalist back in yesteryear. He is dead. He taught two ways of salvation. He taught that those pre-cross and during the tribulation had to add works to salvation. I will never again be amazed to see the kind of people who actually believe his drivel. He helped plunge dispensationalism in the minds of others into the realm of comic book theology like few have.

Actually, his only rivals might be Van Impe, Tim LaHaye, Jerry Falwell, or John Hagee.

Bottom line: they are hyper dispensationalists and I can't stand the fools.

    Oh, okay, DD.
I actually had a book once by Larkin, found it interesting, but not appealing to the spirit.

"The Book of Life was written long ago because God knew. Those in that book ARE, therefore the elect."

If by this statement you mean that God looked ahead in the future and saw who was going to choose Him....then wrote their name down....I have two questions.

    1. Does that make God the "Great I Am" Sovereign Lord and Master or simply an historical secetary?

    2. Does that make salvation a reward for us making the right choice (therefore being by works) and not grace?

If you're interested in interacting with Baptists of a Calvinist bent, you might want to try the link below. Not as busy as this board, but they have some lively discussions. Personally, I've never considered myself a card-carrying Calvinist, but there is no doubt that God is sovereign and that election is unconditional. Man's moral responsibility is not negated by this reality, although you will see many (not Calvinists) argue that it is.

I'm a Reformed Baptist. I hold to the London Baptist Confession of 1689.

    I do like Piper's 7 points better then Calvin's 5 however ;)

Great discussion board and good place for "Reformed Baptists". I've spent some time there. Folks on that Board tend to stay on topic and discuss only the issues.

Any scriptural support from Mr. Piper on those he claims are predestined to Hell? Or is that not a scriptural truth, but one derived logically from Calvin's logically derived points?

After all like you said, we are all condemned from birth, we are all without relationship with God, and it is perfectly just that we should be punished for it. I do not view Predestination in the negative, God in his sovereign grace has chosen to redeem some of those who are lost. Those who he knows intimately will be drawn to him by the spirit. The rest of humanity will suffer the just punishment for their sins since they have not recieved the truth that their sins are already covered by Christ's cross work. God's grace is sufficient for the sins of those who go to hell.

Again, I agree that this is a logically supportable conclusion, just not supportable Biblically, and you have to be careful in that case. I try to avoid populating my theology with "truths" that cannot be scripturally supported.

    Hey Brothers!

This is my first post - and just thought I would make a recommendation. I just bought my wife a new Bible for mother's day.

The Spirit of the Reformation Bible

She is very pleased with it - just in case there are some of you who need to do some shopping!
