    From the Chicago Tribune....

Rahm Emanuel talked with governor's office about who should fill Obama's Senate seat

Chief of staff for Obama had list of names

By Bob Secter December 13, 2008

Rahm Emanuel, President-elect Barack Obama's pick to be White House chief of staff, had conversations with Gov. Rod Blagojevich's administration about who would replace Obama in the U.S. Senate, the Tribune has learned.

The revelation does not suggest Obama's new gatekeeper was involved in any talk of dealmaking involving the seat. But it does help fill in the gaps surrounding a question that Obama was unable or unwilling to answer this week: Did anyone on his staff have contact with Blagojevich about his choice for the Senate seat?

Blagojevich and John Harris, his former chief of staff, face federal charges in an alleged shakedown involving the vacant Senate seat, which Illinois law grants the governor sole authority to fill.

Obama said Thursday he had never spoken to Blagojevich about the Senate vacancy and was "confident that no representatives" of his had engaged in any dealmaking over the seat with the governor or his team. He also pledged Thursday that in the "next few days" he would explain what contacts his staff may have had with the governor's office about the Senate vacancy....

Would you not expect the chief of staff of the departing office holder to confer with the person appointing the replacement. If this is yet another attempt to defame Obama by association, it falls flat.

It's a newspaper article, from the zero's hometown. It's not an attempt to defame anyone. It simply answers a question that he would not.

A little quick on the defense, eh ?

MP, yer bordering on a personal ATTACK.

You don't know why I posted it, and your attempt to put a meaning to it is only an oblique way to slander me without any proof.

And you making it personal makes me think this is hitting close to home.

You haven't addressed any facts, just slanderous statements on people's supposed motives.

Again, the subject matter made you uncomfortable, so you lied about it. It was a news article. Not a defamation attack.

Second, you are quite a name caller, yourself. Unless "pig-boy", and "caribou barbie" don't count. I don't get why you try to squirm out of the fact that you are just as nasty as anyone else, here.

Third, you haven't addressed anything in the article, you have just tried to get the thread shut down, probably successfully.

Well, the story won't go away.

This looks to be accurate. The right-wing attacks on Barack have been proven false. The right-wingers lose yet again.

That's why I don't understand what M.P. is doing, here. He seems way out of line.

We have seen that even a whole bunch of Christian conservatives are no different than anyone else in politics.

Of course I would. However to say so without hearing a report of such would have made some suspect a poster with an agenda. I'd already suspected that someone connected with Obama, if not Obama directly, had been asked for recommendations........ nothing unusual about that to draw suspicion..... but it explains the governor's presumed 'contact' with Obama from his (gov's) pov, even if he had not talked with Obama directly.

    Apparently you think so!

    Bro. Curtis,
Love the way you can simply post an article from a prominant source and recieve such a thrashing. Have had the experience in the past of posting a single verse of scripture without comment and taking a similar beating......

You haven't even made an attempt at debate. And you aren't a threat to me at all, so I won't put you on that list.

[PA deleted - LE] And you present a very weak argument. Hardly worth the ignore list.

If you expect the chief of staff of the departing office holder to confer with the person appointing the replacement, should obama also expected it, yet his answer when questioned appeared clusless.

I would have been amazed if Obama's chief of staff had not been talking to the governor about who might replace Obama in the Senage. In fact, to me, that would have been grounds for Obama to fire Rahm.

I am not sure I understood your point here. But to me the key word or words in the OP are "confident that no representatives" of his had engaged in any dealmaking . Discussing who might replace Obama is quite different from dealmaking.

My problem with this deal is that the supposed candidate of change is proving himself to be nothing more than another politician, well worse than that, a typical Chicago Democrat. Obama should have been clear and upfront when confronted with this instead of saying "I didn't do anything." He is in a role know where "I" includes his close advisers.

Politics as usual - anyone looking for change had better not hold their breaths.
