A lot of people felt Sarah Palin got some pretty rough treatment at the hands of Charlie Gibson during her interview on ABC. So just how rough is it? Well, let’s compare the questions Gibson asked Palin with the questions Gibson asked Obama as compiled by The Anchoress.

    First, Obama:

How does it feel to break a glass ceiling?
How does it feel to “win”?
How does your family feel about your “winning” breaking a glass ceiling?
    Who will be your VP?
Should you choose Hillary Clinton as VP?
    Will you accept public finance?
What issues is your campaign about?
    Will you visit Iraq?
Will you debate McCain at a town hall?
What did you think of your competitor’s [Clinton] speech?

    Now Palin:

Do you have enough qualifications for the job you’re seeking? Specifically have you visited foreign countries and met foreign leaders?
Aren’t you conceited to be seeking this high level job?
    Questions about foreign policy
    -territorial integrity of Georgia
-allowing Georgia and Ukraine to be members of NATO
    -NATO treaty
    -Iranian nuclear threat
-what to do if Israel attacks Iran
    -Al Qaeda motivations
    -the Bush Doctrine
    -attacking terrorists harbored by Pakistan
Is America fighting a holy war? [misquoted Palin]

I don't know how factual this is but I can say Obama has answered those tough questions and more on other shows...

Charlie asked what the people should want to know. People fell in love with Palin at first sight but who is she? What are her views? What does she know about foreign policy? The only way we will find out is if someone ask the questions...

It sounds like you're just trying to excuse the obvious bias of the questions.

69% Say Reporters Try To Help The Candidate They Want To Win

Seven out of 10 voters (69%) remain convinced that reporters try to help the candidate they want to win, and this year by a nearly five-to-one margin voters believe they are trying to help Barack Obama.

Well, Bill O'Riley thought Charlie was way tougher on Obama than he was on Palin.

Perhaps they are just tying to expose and steer you to the best candidate.

When the lame stream media is so in the tank with one candidate...what else would you expect? It has gotten so that anytime ABCNNBCBS has anything to do with an election it is going to slant WAY left.

So you are suggesting there are no tough questions left to ask Obama? Nearly 3/4 of America believes the press is trying to get Obama elected. And yet Obama is struggling in the polls. Why is that? He should be farther than he is. Why isn't he?

The majority of the media is as far left wing as Obama is.

Can you support this 3/4 who believes the press wants Obama elected?

I see both sides on the TV but I guess you only see one. There are definitely media against Obama.

I see, so look at the break down of that number...

Interestingly, while 83% of Republican voters think most reporters are trying to help Obama, 19% of Democrats agree, one percentage point higher than the number of Democrats who believe they are trying to help McCain. Unaffiliated voters by a 53% to 10% margin see reporters trying to help Obama.

So 83+53 do see bias and 19+10 do not. Imagine that:thumbs:

    Was Gibson biased?

Of course he was, but he also did his job!

All media is biased, so are all the viewers. It is only natural that they put the candidate they prefer in a better light. It is only natural that we do the same. Polls indicate that an overwhelming majority of journalists prefer the more liberal candidate. The only dishonesty comes when they pretend to be fair and balanced.

Who cares if a journalist is biased. I believe that most of the viewers can recognize this and expect it. So what if he asked Palin tougher questions. She still got to answer them.

To me it is a lot like drawing a tough bull at the rodeo. You might have a lesser chance of holding on for 8 seconds, but if you do your going to get a higher score. Asking tough questions, questions that the American people want answered is what journalists are supposed to do. Softball interviews don't help the candidates or the viewers.

Once the bias sets in the journalism stops. People are free to be biased but you cant be both.

I thought O Reilly was a right-wing hack from FNC who couldn't be trusted. So why do you trust him now?

Well I disagree. Everyone is biased, there is no such thing as unbiased journalism, it is just not possible. The best you can hope for is some kind of forum that allows both sides to express themselves and then one side is always stronger.

IMHO it is much better to admit our bias then try to deny it.

The very foundation of journalism is to report facts without any addition of opinion. I don't see that as all that difficult. The mainstream media is trying to compete with AM talk radio and Opinion segments on Fox news. Fox blows them all away in any ratings and they cannot keep up.
