Confederate Flag Flies Over Highway

    Lincoln claimed in his First Inaugural Address [FONT=&quot]“No state upon its own mere motion can lawfully get out of the Union.”[/FONT]

    Closely examining the Articles of Confederation, Article II states,

    “[FONT=&quot]Each state retains its sovereignty, freedom, and independence, and every power, jurisdiction, and right, which is not by this Confederation expressly delegated to the United States, in Congress assembled.”

    [/FONT] By the standard definition in any randomly chosen dictionary, delegated means to pass down a chain-of-command to a subordinate agent by a superior authority – in this case, the individual state is passing authority to the Federal government. To reinforce this argument, The Declaration of Independence, in part, states quite clearly,

    [FONT=&quot]“That these United Colonies are, and of right ought to be, Free and Independent States… and that as Free and Independent States, they have full Power to levy War, conclude Peace, contract Alliances, establish Commerce, and to do all other Acts and Things which Independent States may of right do[/FONT].”

    “Power to levy War?” “Contract Alliances? These words sound very much like the authority any nation would grant itself.

    Remember that the framers of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution very specifically designed the new government on the basis of a union of strong and independent states with a minimal Federal government solely responsible for defense and the judiciary, to avoid the pitfalls of powerful central governments such as England. In fact, Article 1, Section 8, Clause 1 of the Constitution specifically states

    “[FONT=&quot]The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States; but all Duties, Imposts and Excises shall be uniform throughout the United States.”

    [/FONT] Common defence and general Welfare meant that their intention was simply to maintain a Federal army and the development of a nationwide judicial system. That was the main purpose of the Federal government – and not the mutation we have today. According to various legal interpretations, Lincoln had no more claim to bind Georgia or Alabama than it had in binding China or France to the Union. The key here is that somehow Lincoln and his supporters chose to believe that the states had magically surrendered their status as sovereign nations as justification to wage war against the south. Lincoln’s actions clearly violated the tenth amendment to the Constitution that states,

    [FONT=&quot]“The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.”[/FONT]

    So, all this talk of racism and neo confederates and warring over economic differences and slavery is basically a load of misinformation aimed at keeping the sheople quiet and secured in their stalls where the federal government can go on fleecing them without too much dissent G2C.

    Those who believe that the Civil War was all about slavery have forgotten that slaves owned by the family of General U. S. Grant were not freed until the Constitution was amended to ban slavery. The Emancipation Proclaimation only declared freedom to slaves in the states that were seceding from the union.

    Those who belive that the Civil War had nothing to do with slavery have never read many of the letters from the soldiers in the Confederate army. It is clear that one of the state rights they were fighting for was the freedom to enslave.

    I also notice that many claim that it is "Southern Heritage" but the flag is not the Confederate flag but is instead the battle flag. It looks as if the heritage that is being claimed is that of Americans killing each other.

    I was born and raised in the south but I am very glad that we remain one nation.

    We can go you at least one better in Nashville. As you drive north on I-65 from Brentwood (exit 74) toward downtown, if you look to your right you will see what purports to be a statue of Nathan Bedford Forrest with sword in hand on a rearing horse surrounded by flag poles. Each pole had a Confederate flag with the state flag of a Confederate state below. The whole display is on private property, so, in spite of the uproar that ensued when it was erected, nothing can be done to force its dismantling.

    I don't drive that stretch interstate very often, and when I have recently I have not looked at the statue, so I cannot speak as to its condition. But the last time I did notice it was hard to recognize the flags because they had deteriorated to the point that most of them were in tatters and therefore unrecognizable. Also, the expression on the statue's face makes Forrest look like a raving lunatic. Now that's pride in your heritage!

    For all you rednecks that wants to keep a dead country's flag flying in the United States of America...

    And say it is only "cultural"...

    I don't want to hear you complain that the Mexican Flag is flying from immigrant's homes because after all, it is a symbol of their culture...

    I don't want to hear you complain about people not learning the English language.. afterall, Spanish is their culture...

    The South lost, get over it...
    Take the flag down.. we beat you!

    Around here the only ones that fly the rebel flags are rednecks, drunks, and drug users...
    The only place you see them are in trailer parks along with Meth Labs...

    The American flag is the only one that should be up in the UNITED States...

    You didn't beat anyone but yourselves. You threw away your freedom as if it were a disease and welcomed a debased and bastardized form of government that only big government warfare/welfare statists and common crooks and minor tyrants and Trotskyites could love.

    Now, oh great self boasting American bend your knee and worship at the alter of the big brother nanny state government and the ever more centralized power the "international community" exercises over it you've adopted with open arms. So, I don't want to hear you whining about the big government leviathan you happily helped to create and sustain anymore either. So there.

    I don't get it.. .what made the South so great that people 150 yrs later would still fly it's flag?

    Why fly a dead country's flag?

    What are you trying to say when you put up a different flag than the one of our nation?
    Are you saying you hate our nation so much that you would rather have lived in the Confederate States?
    Are you saying that you are so proud of your heritage that you would rather fly your cultural colors instead of your country's colors...

    And how many of you rebels are bold enough to complain about Obama not wearing a flag pin... When you fly another country's flag within our country... A little inconsistant huh!

    Flying the rebel flag is disrespectful to our country... the United States of America...
    It is disrespectful to the men and women in our military now who are fighting for the rights that the TRUE flag of America stands for...
    The Reble flag is a flag of a dead country... Or the mark of "The dukes of Hazzard" lol
    And yes, when millions of us "yanks" see the disrespectful bars and stars, it does symbolize the scorn of our nation.. .slavery!

    So make fun of the US all you want by flying your useless rebel flag... The North won.. Blacks were freed, and Justice prevailed...

    If you don't like the US, leave... I for one am proud of it!

    For the record, we didn't lose and the North didn't beat us. We were just behind on the scoreboard when time ran out.
