Is it possible to have a section of the board be for conservative posters only, I miss the interaction but to debate an issue without being able to take the Bible as the authority is non productive. Does anyone else agree with this idea. And please don't hijack this thread by claiming it is a personal narrowminded attack.
In the same way why not have a liberal section and we could all promise to treat it like that great gulf Jesus mentioned. Just a thought.

I'm curious how productive it would be to share ideas with folks who think the same thing you do. What are you hoping to gain from that?

The only problem I see is that you would then run into the issue of what "conservative" means. I'm conservative on some theological issues, but I'm not really a fundamentalist on any of them. On the other hand, many of the people here use conservative to mean fundamentalist.

As long as people leave personal attacks

    Joshua

P.S. Is the "gulf" you're taling about the one in Luke 16? Isn't that a little insulting?

One problem immediately jumps out: Who decides who's conservative and who's liberal? For instance, there are people on here that think I'm a fundamentalist because I believe in inerrancy and the virgin birth, etc., but others think I'm liberal because I'm not KJVO and I'm Reformed. So who decides? I've suggested having a standard of faith that each person must sign before they can become a member, but it was loudly rejected by other leaders here.

It seems to me that almost everyone here takes the Bible as (at least) a high authority. The interpretative method and conclusions are the sticking point.

Who would make the call about “liberal” and “conservative”?

    Ditto! [IMG]

Of course the webmaster could create a forum where everybody must agree with each other where posts would be something like this.

I agree 100% with you brother/sister. In fact you said exactly what I was going to say except that you said what I wanted to say, first.

There's not much else to say except that It was really nice finding a topic we can all agree on.

Looks like we are all in agreement so lets start another topic we can all agree on. Agreed? :D

Actually, post-it, I know you wrote that tongue-in-cheek, but I like the idea. Murph, you came up with a good one.

A bonus---We wouldn't have to worry about trolls, either, cause conservatives would never stoop to trolling other conservatives, and who wants to troll liberals, when ALL conservatives agree they are wrong anyhoo!!! Ha-Ha~!! :D [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

    GREAT IDEA, MURPH! [IMG]

We could have some GREAT discussions without interference - on all subjects! [IMG]

I detected a few problems with your line of reasoning SheEagle911:

    ----
    False Premise #1

Trolls are honest and would not think of misrepresenting themselves to gain entrance to a “conservative” Baptistboard.

    False Premise #2

“Conservatives” don’t like to fight or see other people fight.

    False Premise #3

“Conservatives” never post anything designed to deliberately inflame those whose views are to the ‘left’ of their own. (If you need any evidence, just look at the first post in this thread describing the “great gulf”.)

    False Premise #4

    All “conservatives” think alike.

    False Premise #5

Expulsion of people with minority views will end discord.

    False Premise #6

The Holy Spirit does not use people with minority views to bless, enhance and often correct the views of the majority.
    ----

While it is certainly tempting to get away from or ignore those with whom we disagree, I always find different opinions very helpful. Your recent suggestion for someone from a more fundamental background to lay out a basic clear-cut theology for all of us to read and understand was an excellent idea. I am saddened that no one has taken up the cause – but I understand it. Personally, I have avoided discussing certain issues because of the very real threat that everything I say will be completely distorted by those who have labeled me as a “liberal” who are deliberately trying to discredit everything I say. (I’m trying to pick my battles.)

There needs to be more listening and less angry debate – more discussion and less self-righteousness. I have been part of the problem and have tried to be part of the solution. I will probably continue to both succeed and fail as I try to do God’s work and share in the fellowship here.

Frankly, I’ve noticed that the moderation in some areas has not been up to snuff. On one thread I tried contacting both moderators with concerns, but one moderator’s private message box was full and the other has not even read my message – and it’s been about a week.

We all share responsibility and we can all correct the situation without dividing God’s people. We won’t all agree (we’re Baptists!!), but we can learn to be civil toward each other.

Baptist Believer: "I detected a few problems with your line of reasoning SheEagle911:"

Thank you so much! A conservative would have just said, Amen, SheEagle911.

Your long post pointing out what you claim are false premises, just proved the point why conservatives need their own section of the board! [IMG] Besides, you could always lurk!

RE: your "comments" about the moderators.....

Here's a suggestion: Open mouth wide, insert foot. [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] :D

Don't have to disagree to have a good discussion! I'm enjoying learning from other conservatives; seeing other views that do not require a re-write of the bible to be valid. [IMG]

I do occasionally see something from a liberal that "I want to check out", but it's rare! Most of the liberal views just don't jive with my "conservative" take on scripture.

Good, bad, or indifferent, that's my feelings! :D

So all "conservatives" think alike? Is your position the only position that "conservatives" can legitimately hold?

I don't follow your reasoning at all. Why? (I'm asking seriously here...) Did I somehow misconstrue the meaning of your post? Was I somehow unfair? Did I malign you somehow? Did I make you doubt your faith? Did I somehow misinterpret or otherwise undermine the authority of the Bible? Did I say something that contradicted Baptist theology or piety? How did I "prove" the point?

Are you saying that the moderators at Baptistboard.com aren't fairminded enough to take critique about the quality of their job? Honestly, my experience with the moderators on Baptistboard has been excellent except for the situation in two forums -- I am referring to that situation specifically. If a moderator wants to inquire about my concern, they can PM me.

    You think I'm going somewhere?

What about the *content* of my post?

How about we agree to disagree, that way we are all in full agreement with each other on every topic. Wouldn't you agree? And if you don't, can we agree to disagee on this, our first disagreement to agree on? I can agree, do you agree? [IMG]

Ok, no more silly posts from me, you can tell I have nothing to do right now. Except [IMG]

    Carry on.

    Murph,

I guess eveyone would have figured, I would be all for this. A place where we could discuss things of God's Word and Baptist Doctrine, without the apostates coming in and polluting it. [IMG]

I had to stop all my children from going on this Board unless myself or Olive were there to watch what was being typed here, by the apostates. :(

David the gain would be to learn more about the Word of God, the point you and others miss is that whether we think alike or not is unimportant. The only thing that is important is that we accept literaly what the Bible says, so we can learn from each other without having to listen to those who don't accept the Bible as we do. I have no problem with anyone looking in, but we cannot have like minded discussions without some people derailing the thread, just as several have done on this simple thread. To be perfectly honest I don't feel that a single conservative would have answered on this issue had it been started by a liberal and aimed at liberals. I feel that the conduct of those of you that have done so have proven the motives that you share, not to teach and edify but to harass and cause confusion. For instance Joshua insinuating that my use of the gulf fixed being mean spirited. I was not saying that either group was on the wrong side of the gulf but that I feel it's width is uncrossable. I know how some on the opposite side claim that we should learn from one another but in reality it normaly doesn't happen. I think that we should divide along the line of Literal interpretation, and it would be simple enough to police, our camps are easy to recognize.

That's right!!! We could have discussions about prophecy, and try to find out how old David was when he slew Goliath. Stuff like that. And we wouldn't waste 24 pages of web space arguing about whether Mary was a virgin.
